Menaces sur la biodiversité, menaces sur les ressources en eau de la population dans une région fréquemment touchée par les sécheresses... et pourtant le projet se maintien...

passing the market share of windows

…well windows 7 at least.

in reply to testman

i use a windows 10 agent string in my browser in all of my linux rigs and i wonder if it's hurting stats like these.
in reply to Jerkface (any/all)

but i get cheaper stuff online if it looks like my rig is old and generic; i think i need to get a user agent string toggle browser plugin.
in reply to eldavi

Out of curiosity, why? I have Linux in it and the last time any website complained about “incompatibility” must have been at least 5 years ago. Nowadays i think such workarounds are completely unnecessary.
in reply to Metz

i do it for cheaper prices when websites do server side tracking. i've noticed by accident a few years back that using agent strings for the oldest active microsoft release has a small impact that add up on expensive things like air line tickets.
in reply to eldavi

oh right okay, i forgot that this is a thing. its noticeable on hotel rooms as well with mobile vs. desktop prices for examples. thanks for the answer.
in reply to Metz

Now I need to know which one is cheaper! Please tell us your tricks.
in reply to Wrufieotnak

oh hell, i have to look myself. have not booked a room in over a year. It was on some site similar to booking.com for vacation rentals in Germany. And i noticed mobile was cheaper by sometimes 5%!
in reply to Metz

LibreWolf (for example, among other security-conscious software packages) does it by default to reduce enabling of fingerprinting. The information is misused far more often than it is put to any of the user's interests.
in reply to eldavi

If you use the app, then probably not. I don't know if they would count browser usage anyway.

what is the state of rel="me" support on @ORCID_Org profiles to make the #ORCID link show up green on #Mastodon?
in reply to Egon Willighagen

see tracking issue github.com/ORCID/ORCID-Source/… and my potential solution in github.com/ORCID/orcid-angular…

I'm not going to make a PR though, I don't get the feeling a contribution would be appreciated

in reply to Charles Tapley Hoyt

that issue has been open now for two years... this is the problem with using "advanced" platforms (angular in this case). Things that should be simple no longer are :(
in reply to Egon Willigh☮gen 🟥

@egonw agreed, there's no reason ORCID isn't just templated in the backend other than someone decided they wanted to use high tech new javascript.

i did a _lot_ of work to download/standardize ORCID in github.com/cthoyt/orcid_downlo…, maybe I can also demonstrate having a simple web app on top of this

in reply to Charles Tapley Hoyt

@cthoyt dunno. a simple web app on top of the data is trivial. I don't think this is the issue here. like you say, the organizations making the votes *want* a complex app, and since orcid.org is the authority, web apps not running on that domain are not adding helpful
in reply to Egon Willigh☮gen 🟥

@cthoyt of course, in their defense, maybe using HTML rel="me" is not the best way of doing this, and we should just solve this at a semantic web level in the first place
in reply to Egon Willigh☮gen 🟥

@cthoyt or maybe the #ORCID should just include a snippet of schema.org that #Mastodon could use for verification. This should not be that hard. life scientists are, after all, doing this routinely (ht @elixir_europe)

but I am very disappointed that important #openInfrastructure like #ORCID cannot be more reactive to things like this. rel="me" is a very useful community standard and it should have been able to come up with some solution to solve this

in reply to Charles Tapley Hoyt

@cthoyt about the PR, there is only one way to find out. and a PR can also just start further discussion.

How many global conflicts has she solved since she got that degree?
in reply to Subject6051

Probably not too many, but she seems to have landed a good job with this degree regardless.
