Haha, me too (though it can have anonymous comments. It's not the worst, but it's not the best.
in reply to OrbitalMartian

No, I don't actually mind Disqus too much.
It would just suck if it replaced Fediverse comments ;)

Thank you, European #Greens.
theguardian.com/us-news/2024/n…

Even if ineffective, this is speaking truth to narcissism.

"A coalition of European Greens [in 16 countries] have urged the US #GreenParty’s nominee, #JillStein, to pull out of next week’s election and endorse Kamala #Harris…'The US Greens are no longer a member of the global organisation of Green parties,' they wrote. 'In part, this fissure resulted from their relationship with parties with authoritarian leaders.'"

Reminder that the German "green" party forced a shut down of Germany's nuclear reactors, causing Germany to rely on coal/diesel plants AND RUSSIAN GAS, thus financing Vlad's christofascist push around the world.

The rise of China and the Global South is part of a century-long process

I do not feel optimistic about Tuesday.

That said, I thought Democrats were going to get wiped out in 2022, and that didn't happen, so my gut instinct is not particularly predictive.

Pluralistic: Bluesky and enshittification (02 Nov 2024) – Cory Doctorow

in reply to flamingos-cant (hopepunk arc)

The switching cost point is profound and real. You might just see that same dynamic at your place of employment.
in reply to Alph4d0g

One of the big turning points for Facebook for them to increase the difficulty of switching was cutting off RSS as a way to syndicate content into Facebook. After that, content had to be manually created in Facebook, instead of automatically imported from a third party source based on standard protocols. This forced people away from their chosen content authoring system into Facebook's opinionated, inflexible, ad infested walled garden.

I expect to see a chorus of “well actually” skeets about this post by @pluralistic about Bluesky (pluralistic.net/2024/11/02/uly…), but we have seen this movie before. Remember when the narrative about Twitter was that it was an “open” platform, circa 2007-08? We believed it then, because the API was freely available and didn’t have many restrictions at that time. But when Twitter needed to show more revenue growth, the screws began to be turned. cybercultural.com/p/twitter-in…

But it's a good question, what kind of bombs will Trump send to Israel that Biden hasn't sent there already?

I can easily envision Trump legitimizing an Israeli occupation (with settlements) in the Gaza Strip.

Right now Netanyahu does not do that because of Biden, but doesn't do anything else useful there.

in reply to Tzafrir

@tzafrir Netanyahu isn't doing that because it's not tenable due to Hamas resistance.

Saying this is "because of Biden" who's barely sentient, is absolutely something you pulled from the sky, not from anything approaching sourcing.
