Astonishingly, this dates from 4,500 years ago ~ a beautifully simple #Sumerian chaplet, with beads of lapis lazuli (blue) & carnelian (red), and leaves of gold, once adorning the forehead of a female royal attendant.

This type of brightly glazed #ceramic was made for only about fifty years, during the reign of emperor Minghuang β who ruled from 712 to 756 β when the #Tang dynasty was at its height. At the time, the capital city Chang'an (modern Xian) was one of the most populous and cosmopolitan in the world.
