Lots of bad UX, too many joyless pedantic scold types, feeling put off by ALT-text police etc.
My big reason to be connected with it is that a lot of industry people, journalists, and pundits, ended up there or on Threads. I connect to them where they are since this server does federate with Threads. *But* I have my Relatica client setup so that I can't comment on or reshare Threads posts so that I don't fling Threads content throughout the ActivityPub fediverse.
Besides, "that's where people I want to follow are," there isn't much appeal to Bluesky for me. Discovery and search works way better there since there are whole components that vacuum up literally all content on the entire Bluesky networks, which is antithetical to the ethos at Mastodon. That is a double edged sword though for obvious reasons.
@Hank G ☑️ Yeah, someday I might find someone I can't live without following there, or their number will peek enough that they are viable as an outreach platform for my channel, if I do that i'll certainly mirror it with here.

I wouldn't touch Nostr with a ten foot poll for multiple reasons, both architectural and the temperament and political persuasions of some of the contributors I ran into in discussion forums over the years.
Ironically the level of contrarianism I found among that set of developers/hosters was one of the temperament things I was talking about. I have been developing on FOSS Projects since the early-2000s and fediverse projects for over eight years now. I had never encountered such levels of that on any projects, which is saying a lot.
While I have no interest in a Bluesky account personally, it has attracted some wonderful people I used to follow back in the days before Twitter went to hell. Grateful to be getting some of them back in my Masto feeds via Bluesky! 😎👍

Mastodon has it's virtues but it is hampered by being so dependent on the owner's conservative philosophy. Bluesky is more adventurous with its features. But I haven't figured them out very well yet.

Bluesky will never help federated/decentralized systems. It's fake support, and already several steps further along the enshitification road than ActivityPub.
ActivityPub is doomed also, it's design is too complex and flexible like HTML5. It'll take a while though, like how it took a while for HTML5 to result in the Google monopoly (and enshitificiation).
Diaspora protocol is robust against the Embrace Extend Extinguish Enshitification road, but that's little consolation if people won't join up with it while chasing illusions.
The bottom line is that people don't care about the protocol or the enshitification. They view the enshitification as inevitable anyway, so they just enjoy whatever platform is trendy for as short as it lasts.
I hope for the raise of Diaspora again... they could use the same approach of Bluesky to federate with AP, even though is waste of computational power... 🤔

For me Sharkey is very stable compared to Firefish, refreshingly so. Firefish always had been a bit rocky to me. Migration went without problems.
There's not really that much difference visually, just small details. The base is still largely the same. They're both Misskey forks and haven't deviated too much yet seems like. Hence the easy migration (after a little downgrading to a certain version).

Newsletter: Coinbase threatens me that continuing to report on their activities would be “.... unwise”. Also, election spending hits a fever pitch, with several new crypto PACs coming out of the woodwork.
Coinbase has been promoting a new $25 million contribution to the Fairshake crypto-focused super PAC, which, like their May contribution of the same amount, appears to be in violation of campaign finance laws prohibiting contributions by federal contractors.
However, when I noted this earlier this week, I was met with a threat from Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal, who tweeted that continuing to report on Coinbase would be “.... unwise”.
Elsewhere, Coinbase’s astroturfed “Stand With Crypto” lobbying group threw a Black Keys concert to benefit Bernie Moreno (R-OH). Perhaps because so few people showed up, half the audience were left watching the backs of the performers. “Weirdest gig we’ve ever played”, said the band.
Some new crypto PACs have cropped up, including a few putting emergency funding behind Ted Cruz (R-TX) as his race appears to be tighter than originally predicted.
The weirdest new PAC is probably a very short-lived committee called “Republicans for A Pro-Crypto Senate Majority”, which raised about $200,000 from mostly Coinbase employees (including CEO Brian Armstrong), but also people like World Liberty Financial team member Zachary Witkoff.

Nice to see coverage of this. They are clearly engaged in sketchy behaviour despite the apparent lack of need (neither party seems to want to push away crypto money).
I love the audio version in my podcast list every few days, a great listen. One subtle suggestion, when you reach a topic change could you include some audible tone signal, a subtle chime/beep or something. On occasions I've missed the topic change and scrambled to keep up. I love the info density and research of the writing, so I'm concentrating hard and miss the subtleties sometimes ;)

Alexis was really impressed today as it was his first November sail here. It was windy and cool, but we were all well dressed for the conditions and only stayed out for 1:15. There were some downwind runs when the sun was shining that felt almost warm, too.
