#python peeps: where can I find a discussion about why there is no cryptography in the standard libraries? This must have been discussed at least a few times, possibly at a high level in the PSF, but searching is failing me.

Please note I only want pointers to existing discussion(s), not to start a thread here on the topic. Starting a thread here is pretty useless because no one will find it in the future.

in reply to Paul Hoffman

There was a brief discussion at discuss.python.org/t/create-li…

There were no reasons given for adding cryptography to the #Python stdlib but:

"Some of the disadvantages are that further development is tied to the CPython release cycle (e.g. no new features after a beta release), and that writing good and secure cryptography code is a skill that not many developers have."

Hezbollah announced on 2 December its first operation targeting Israel since a ceasefire took effect last week – in response to Tel Aviv’s constant violations of the agreement.

Following the Hezbollah operation, Israeli artillery opened fire at the outskirts of Shebaa town.

Hezbollah's attack did not violate the ceasefire and was consistent with international law since the Shebaa Farms and Kfar Shuba hills are illegally occupied by Israel.

I have no idea why ChatGPT would refuse to use my name, but I don’t mind either.

Idk what brain region it was in, but I once drove a guy who had some sort of brain stimulation for Parkinson's. Had this match-box sized box of batteries for it in his chest. (Batteries were shit like 15 years ago.) He was hyped about it, and I'm sure whatever he had was pretty rudimentary by today's standards.

I'm working to build an ethical home for #Musicians that doesn't siphon their work into the #AI torment nexus.

Today, I've installed a new firewall on #Bandwagon called "Silicon Dome" that blocks every known AI and malicious bot.

With regular monitoring and updates, Silicon Dome will actively protect human creativity from the rampant AIs already out in the wild.

I think it's a win for humanity.

Apple accused of snooping on workers’ iPhones in new lawsuit

A lawsuit accuses Apple of collecting data from company-managed devices — including personal iPhones used for work.

"On December 2, the International Court of Justice will begin hearings on an Advisory Opinion relating to the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change. Over 100 countries and organizations will present in 30-minute increments over two weeks. At the request of the UN General Assembly, the #ICJ will determine the existing #FinancialLiability of countries for their contribution to climate change and what actions countries must take to prevent #ClimateChange."

"Three of the world’s most prominent courts have addressed States’ legal obligations in the context of climate change.

Their conclusions showed a significant convergence on several key issues, including the role of science, the standard of due diligence, the duty to cooperate, the role of private actors, the importance of human rights, and the need for reparations."

"Over years, Aguon and his team gathered testimonies from all across the Pacific about losses inflicted by climate change. They heard from people in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and other places who broke with cultural protocol to share sacred knowledge of their environment and culture – hoping that telling their stories might lead to a better future.

In 2025, Aguon argued the case before the international court of justice (ICJ)."

I had to look that one up. It means yankee/burgerstanian. I guess reporter doesn’t know how to curate their feed, so they complained to the manager instead.

Maybe it's the right time for an open source browser to take the spotlight against Chrome?

NoName057(16) back to targeting UK this week, they're going to run all week. Thread for the week.

Current DDoS config, 17 orgs, UK councils and transport. Approx 70% success rate.

in reply to Kevin Beaumont

So far every council you've mentioned the issues has pretended it's a generic issue, lol

Edit: although in fairness I guess some of these councils might not actually know the cause

To bring this to life btw about why NoName is so successful in terms of bringing things down - this is entire config for eastsuffolk.gov.uk, which has been down since 7am UK time.

There's no packet flood. There's no large packets. There's nothing like that. It's a layer 7, application layer attack.

All they do is send lots of web search requests with gibberish -- $_1 and $_5 are just large random strings. It's enough to CPU and memory exhaust most webservers.
