lol I was an EMACS guy in college. The only Vi commands still in my brain are :s, :wq. To be fair, I haven't used EMACS in 20 years and I only remember ctrl K, ctryl Y, ctrl x ctrl c.

When we tell children that Santa will distribute presents based on how "good" or "bad" they are, then the kids witness that presents are distributed based on which economic situation they happen to have been born into, what are we really teaching kids about "good" and "bad".

I have thought about this a lot but unfortunately only since my kids have grown. If I had to do it over again I would take the approach of a family I met a few years ago - they did the origin Saint Nick story and then told the kids that all the adults pretend to be Santa to honour the original. I liked that. It kept the Santa fun but without the pretending and without the implied judgement when rich kids get more stuff.
