The Ghosts in the Machine: Spotify’s plot against musicians

<- harpers.org/archive/2025/01/th…

I use Music for Programming or DI:FM for background ambient focus enhancement. TIL some people use Spotify for this, and it's bad for artists. Suggestion: don't?

in reply to Liam Proven

I always wonder if the death of #LastFM (the streaming and social networking service - what's left is more of a warmed-over #Audioscrobbler with YouTube and Spotify integration) was because #Spotify were undercutting them. Last.fm seemed to make strenuous efforts to appease record labels and to pay for music, but Spotify always seemed to be able to minimise its payments to labels and artists.

Liam Proven reshared this.

Musk holds no elected position, nor will he in the Trump administration.

His commentary regarding Congress' funding of the government is the opinion of one man, one who could use his vast wealth to primary our representatives.

He must think that his wealth amplifies his voice louder than the law, and thus he should rule as royalty, impetuously commanding, with the expectation of capitulation by the elected.

Congress must not cave to him. The US has no kings.

Move to Amend:
End Corporate Rule.
Legalize Democracy.

On January 21, 2010, with its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission,
the Supreme Court ruled that corporations are persons,
entitled by the U.S. Constitution to buy elections and run our government.
Human beings are people; corporations are legal fictions.

We, the People of the United States of America,
reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United and other related cases,
and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech,
and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

The Supreme Court is misguided in principle, and wrong on the law.
In a democracy, the people rule.

Today, MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) conducts research funded by the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD), with direct applications to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The MIT Coalition for Palestine, whose tuition and labor support CSAIL, call on CSAIL Director Daniela Rus to lead by example and end her IMoD-sponsored research.

The thing is, when you don't understand the 'hard' stuff, your programs in other languages will most likely be bad and break sooner or later.

@chfkch yes! Even though I'm no good at Rust yet, I can already kinda feel that things are more solid and tied down securely once it compiles.

A Palestinian child was killed on Saturday when an Israeli landmine exploded in the Bethlehem area in the southern occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the death of 7-year-old Mohammad Yasser Ali Rashaida, who was killed by the explosion of an Israeli mine in the Rashida area.

The Israeli army routinely uses Palestinian land for training and live-fire exercises, leaving behind unexploded shells and bombs.

Hey #AskFedi / #HiveMind,

Does anyone know how to export a #GoogleSlides presentation as a usable format?
This is a public slide, not something within my google account, so I can't just click on file, save as. ;)

Here is the URL:

spf13.com/presentation/buildin…

Direct url: docs.google.com/presentation/d…

I just start breaking out in hives if I'm forced to stare at a web browser for a long time. It's just a horrible feeling. If I could get PNGs or a PDF out of it (or even .pptx?), that would be AMAZING XD

in reply to R. L. Dane

Now I'm curious too. As far as I can tell, there's no obvious way to do that. All the online instructions assume you are the author.
in reply to Zumbador

@Zumbador

Yeah, that's what I found as well. XD

Best I can think of would be to do a timed screenshot thing, but UGH. So horrible.
The web has gone from the most open thing ever to some horrendous obfuscated thing.
