Come dicevo, quest'anno regalo ghiande.

Ne ho preparate una decina, ne manca ancora qualcuna.

I bigliettini saranno scritti su cartoncino di recupero della carta da regalo.

artists, i'm curious about handed-ness and drawing!

what's your dominant hand, and how do you draw a line:

do you predominantly "push" (your hand is "behind" the pencil, meaning your hand crosses overtop the line that has been drawn)

or "pull" (your hand is "ahead" of the pencil, meaning your hand does not cross over the line as it is being drawn)

edit: reworked the answer layout, sorryy, I decided this would be more useful

#art

  • left-handed, push (15%, 8 votes)
  • left-handed, pull (7%, 4 votes)
  • right-handed, push (11%, 6 votes)
  • right-handed, pull (65%, 34 votes)
52 voters. Poll end: 1 year ago

There's surely an essay in this (and if a good one has already been written please comment and let me know), but the way children's media has been imbued with anti-fascist messages for decades, to the point of cliche, and how little it's done to prevent actual fascism, feels like a rich vein.

RE: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:esrrg…

in reply to Evan Urquhart

Are the messages of these movies and books still "good" if they've done nothing to teach children how to recognize and resist the real thing? What does it mean to feel good seeing fascism resisted or defeated by characters in a movie then return home to ignore or accept it in the real world?
in reply to Evan Urquhart

Same with Star Wars, TBH. Especially the prequels. I wonder sometimes if people don't even register these movies are parables about the real world.

Russian disinfo network “Matryoshka” is migrating to Bluesky

The Russian disinformation network “Matryoshka” has launched a new campaign on the Bluesky social network. Eliot Higgins, founder of the investigative journalism group Bellingcat, has been one of the first researchers to detect its activity. So far, four Russian-made fake videos have been identified on the platform.

The Insider and Bot Blocker reported on a similar campaign in which anti-Ukrainian narratives were presented as coming from professors affiliated with globally renowned institutions — including Harvard University and the University of Cambridge. The professors’ voices were replicated using artificial intelligence (AI) tools — a fact that was verified by the University of Bristol, which at The Insider’s request analyzed a video featuring Ronald Hutton, a prominent British historian and faculty member.

'It's in our DNA': Charity organization names N.S. the most generous province

More than $10 million donated to charities across the province in 2024 through the CanadaHelps organization

Fiorini said the charitable tendencies of Nova Scotians are still strong even though the province isn't among those with the highest household incomes.

"It's in our DNA. So, think about the Mi'kmaq who helped the Black Loyalists. Think about after the [Halifax] Explosion, wartime here in Halifax," said Lyon. "It is part of who we are and I'm very proud to come on here to say that Nova Scotia is the most generous province."
