Mozilla Revenue Jumped in 2023, But Search Deal Cash Fell
But let’s end on a positive note: Mozilla is still making money – good money (although roughly what Google makes in half a day). It has increased the value of its assets, and maintains a workforce full of enthusiastic, passionate, and intensely talented people. And a lot of good will remains for Mozilla as it’s pretty much a lone voice shouting over tech giants’ manipulative algorithms intertwined with predatory ad practices, to remind us all that a web made by people, for people, is worth fighting for.

more evidence that trump doesn’t have as much juice as people think! [contains quote post or other embedded content]
🇺🇦 Ukrainain, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury to retain his unified heavyweight world #boxing titles and prove his status as a generational great with another close points win in their rematch in Saudi Arabia.
I think this is the best explanation of Musk, period. He didn't arrive at his current ideology because he's ideological. He arrived at it because he's desperately incompetent & needs a government that'll award him money despite his incompetence. Which Trump was desperate enough to promise to do.

It is just a fact of life that the internet and its web pages have become bloated. Ten years ago a simple page of news might have been 200 kB, now it it often 600 MB. Have ten tabs open and there is 1 GB alone.

in reply to Adam Hunt • • •Seriously?? 😳
I've used Firefox since before it was renamed to Netscape Navigator, and no way I'm even considering Chrome.
But my goodness, it is resource-hungry! It eats gigs like they are peanuts and let's not even speak about CPU...
That other project of theirs, Thunderbird is even hungrier, it seems. And what does a mail client have to do anyway? Listen for notifications from a couple of IMAP servers, it's not as if it's mining Bitcoin...
Anyway, they're open source, they work and I'm used to them, so I won't switch unless I get a very good reason to do so.
And knowing that Google's advertising and tracking platform burns even more resources, is another good reason to stay away from it 😉

If there is a going forward, given that the lawsuit against Google might just cut off almost all of Mozilla's revenue very soon. From what I see, they're well aware of it and are burning through cash just like no tomorrow.
That said, the possible demise of Firefox will have huge repercussions, given that there are no real alternatives yet. Ladybird might be something to look forward to, but it's no there yet. Lots of Firefox derivatives, too, will have a hard time, most notably the Tor Project, if FF folds. And no, just because Firefox is 'open source' doesn't mean, 3 guys from Nebraska are gonna keep it going after some 'fork' in any meaningful fashion. Mozilla hasn't just sold out, they have sold us out!
And I'm saying that as a FF user, given aforementioned lack of alternatives.

A lot easier on the eyes, and even easier on resources.

The important things to know seem to be well listed here
