The abortion bans that have taken effect since Roe was overturned,
as well as abortion restrictions that existed before the 2022 Supreme Court ruling,
do not allow women who terminate their pregnancies to be punished,
instead targeting doctors and others who help facilitate abortions.

But those measures don’t tell the full story.
In rare and often little-noticed cases, authorities have drawn on other laws to charge women accused of trying to end their pregnancies.

Some prosecutors in both red and blue states have used sweeping statutes entirely unrelated to abortion
— like child abuse, improper disposal of remains or murder
— while others have relied on criminal laws written to protect a fetus.

In Nevada, Frazier would eventually be charged with manslaughter under a unique 1911 law that supplements the state’s abortion restrictions,
titled “taking drugs to terminate pregnancy.”

Serious question for folks running a #homelab server, who (like me) try to take back control of our data and digital activities from “big tech”:

What phone do you use that fits into that strategy?

I currently use an iPhone 15 Pro and could go back to an Android device (running #CalyxOS or #Graphene, which I’ve done before) but it seems like that’s the only option. Which sucks IMO. #Linux phones just aren’t there yet. 👎🏻

One of my favorite things in Utah is that my beard means servers will immediately talk to me about booze options when I sit down at a nice restaurant. Cheers!

@jalefkowit Okay you just made me chortle spontaneously in the middle of this town’s fanciest restaurant.

In no small part because the last time I was passing through, a bartender at the hippest bar was explaining to me that I COULD have a three-ounce martini as long as it was 1.5 ounces of one brand of gin and 1.5 ounces of another. And I could see how much this pained him to explain to an outsider.

@davidtoddmccarty @randomcha Totally fair attitude. I was just talking with some people and said the thing that always beggars belief is the idea that we’re grownups who have to go through that rigamarole every time we want a drink.

When at my regular spots at home, there’s usually a massive martini waiting for me by the time I get to my favorite seat. Because it’s a bar and that’s how bars work.

I knew, given the lack of compassion and kicking of someone while they're down, that they were Republican.

What a shock: I was right.

Almost like the stereotype of conservatives being almost entirely composed of the worst of humanity is well-earned or something.

spreading misinformation about the absolutely distinct characters of the Greek β (lower case beta) and Β (upper case beta) and the German ß (lower case scharfes S) and ẞ (upper case scharfes S, which is a recent "invention" as generally the scharfes S doesn't occur in the beginning of the sentence).

It is sad to see Brodie going from debunker of bird misinformation in Ubuntu to spreader of unicode character misinformation!!!!

Man, this is the type of shit that would keep me up at night. Just when I thought I heard everything with emoji in email addresses, you bring this to my attention.

I hate dealing with weird unicode issues. One more to add to the list I guess 🙄
