❌ Instagram - not entirely impossible, but catching up with some friends happens only through there
I'm using WhatsApp (due to social pressure) in a restricted way (no access to my phone's contacts, no backup as that requires linking another account).
Never had an Instagram account, campaigned against Threads, and its federation here - very scorpion and frog allowing its federation. As for Facebook had one 10years ago for the briefest of moments, and under fake details... obviously didn't trust them then, and that was long before the whole Cambridge Analytica disgrace.
And the final and worst reason is that freespeach should always be my right and no one elses
I've not deleted FB or Instagram but have stopped using them. FB might get 5 mins at the weekend but that's it. Haven't touched Threads.
WhatsApp I can't walk away from. Virtually everyone I interact with is on it and uses it. Meta can't scrape my chats and I don't join random groups so I'm unlikely to see objectionable content.

Just curious; does anyone know a ballpark figure for how much an advertiser pays for an advert on, say FB?
I was wondering whether the Fediverse or some new entity could go head to head with many of the commercial social media companies, all at once, by taking a no-advertising, federated, not-for-profit micro payments approach. Would have to carefully cover (almost) all of the use cases of all social media and be really well designed but the micro payments would just cover costs and not profits, so may be acceptable as a substitute for adverts to users?
I deleted my account for FB and IN in 2018.
I never joined TH.
Now, WA is a tough one. In The Netherlands, WA has been kind of the de facto standard messaging app for years, even before it was acquired by Zuck.
I am currently trying to get all my contacts to switch to Signal, but it will need time.
Need to put some effort into seeing if I want to save anything, including making sure that I can keep in contact with people elsewhere but I've already deleted the app from my phone and changed my browser bookmark so it only shows my friends' posts.
I'll announce that I'm going to delete my account shortly.
WhatsApp is a tough one. 1. Cannot delete it as long as others are not moving to a different platform. 2. Currently, in terms of video call, WhatsApp is the most tolerant one to weak internet connections; I haven't seen any alternative that works just as well. 3. Something only long distance couples will experience: evidence to prove we've been a couple, before getting married.
Slowly but surely, there is progress, though, in all fields.

Left Facebook a decade ago, Twitter years ago. Trying to delete all photos from Facebook was a bitch, that was pretty eye opening back in the days...
Whatsapp is unfortunately difficult to get rid of due to network effects. Though I believe in 2025 in Europe interoperability is legally required so we should be able to use Signal to app with Whatsapp users.
That might shift the balance a bit. Though group messaging might still be an issue...
cannot remove Whatsapp. Everybody I care about uses it, so I would be left out if I removed it 😓

C-suite execs, think about that for a minute. People who are more talented than me will be able to find remote jobs without such a pay cut. How much top talent are you turning away by being sticks in the mud and insisting on return to office policies? If you're going to ignore the benefits for the environment and society at large, maybe you'll be persuaded by the holes that such policies are burning in your pockets? You could be paying someone less for the same job or paying the same amount for someone who is better at what they do, if you'd only budge on your hard-nosed insistence on antiquated 20th century work practices.
