💬 "Between 2014 and 2023, Italian steelmaker Cividale Spa earned €93M from cooperation with russian entities, per irpimedia and trapaggressor, a B4Ukraine member.

🚩 Cividale is a shareholder in BVK, a sanctioned russian plant supplying components for "Smerch" rocket systems used in strikes on Ukrainian civilians.

It’s past time for the EU to close loopholes and end the business ties fueling russia’s aggression.

My experience from the time I tried to quit #whatsapp back in 2021. I was reminded of this while reading @pluralistic talk about the two factors that allow services to be terrible.

“Bluesky is in a dangerous place: not because it is backed by VCs, not because it is a for-profit entity, but because it has captive users and no constraints. It's a great party in a sealed building with no fire exits”

Bluesky vs Mastodon vs mainstream social media by @pluralistic mamot.fr/@pluralistic/11386120…

in reply to Jørn

@jornane
I am not in any way affiliated with the management of this project. I will not see $1, let alone $30m. I am not employed by it, paid by it, or building it. I endorsed it. That is, I think it's a good idea.

Moreover, I've been using Mastodon far longer than you have, I use it far more than you do. I did not say - and do not think - Mastodon "isn't cool enough."

It's fine to consider the source when reading, but inventing nonsense about that source is pretty foolish.

in reply to Cory Doctorow

Ah well then you won't have a problem showing me your street cred card. *checks date*. Yep, checks out, you're longer on the fediverse than me, and your card is also more worn than mine, so you indeed use it more.

My point stands though. Mastodon has fire exits, we know it does. BlueSky has not as of now. All that good-idea 30 million BlueSky-alternative you endorsed has going for it, is a pinky swear promise that it will have fire exits, and they'll be kept open.
