Great to see that someone's paying attention to Infrastructure Australia’s infrastructure priority list--- building the cycling items on this would be a game changer for health, traffic congestion, and climate emissions in our capital cities.
They call out false solutions: "for example, telling people to ride to work, while not providing them a safe place to do so, doesn’t make sense".

Walking and cycling get 90c per person each year from the Australian government. What if that figure rose to $5, $10 or $15?The Conversation
Sometimes people from other countries wonder very loudly why immigrants put up with *all of this* in America and the answer is somewhere in between ‘your countries are harder to get to and stay in’ and ‘America is the best and worst at everything’
It’s very bad in a lot of ways but it’s also very good in lots of ways.
As I say here: America is the restaurant that gives me food poisoning

Deny them water. Deny them food. It can work both ways.
Great.
But without representatives doing something, without lawsuits without pushback republicans don’t give a crap how many people are in the streets.
We need representatives who are doing more than “considering legislation” and writing strongly worded letters….

The nightmare continues
“The initial lawsuit, filed on January 27, cites reports that Musk’s associates illegally connected a server to a government network for the purposes of harvesting information, including the names and email accounts of federal employees. The server was installed on the agency’s premises, the complaint alleges, without OPM—the government’s human resources department—conducting a mandatory privacy impact assessment required under federal law.”

in reply to Adrianna Tan • • •More important to me though, is the fact that I get to own this shit and call it shit and be part of the shit.
I’ve tried to live in many other ‘better’ countries and lemme tell you, they never let anyone who isn’t the right color call out any shit. You’re just supposed to eat *their* shit and say it tastes great.
So yeah it’s kind of shitty now, but it’s mine.

in reply to Adrianna Tan • • •It’s a low bar, but so is ‘maybe don’t say your country isn’t racist at all and is better than America if every time I’ve visited someone yells something racist at me but apparently there is no racism in your country and I must have imagined it because you’re better than America!’
I would literally rather live in fascism and shit than deal with gaslighting settlers in most other English speaking countries (which are also soon getting their own fascisms)

in reply to Adrianna Tan • • •Also: unlike what it seems in the media, there are vast swathes of America that are really.. nice places to live in.
My wife and I talk about this a lot, as immigrants, about returning to my first world Asian country vs her European one, and we always land on ‘nope’.
There’s more to this, but also has to do with ‘CA is still the best for us as a queer trans-national and interracial couple at this particular stage in our lives in spite of whatever is happening out there’.
We really like our lives here and do not want to move again. There’s a reason immigrants fight really hard to stay on. I’m living it.
