Scientists solve the mystery of sea turtles’ "lost years."

From @AssociatedPress: "For decades, scientists have wondered about what happens ... between when tiny hatchlings leave the beach and when they return to coastlines nearly grown — a span of about one to 10 years."

“The Trump administration has not released a list of DOGE employees. Nor has it said how they are being paid, how many have entered each agency, and whether they are government workers. That raises questions about who they are answerable to - Musk or Trump as head of the executive branch.” reuters.com/world/us/musk-crea…

They Answer to the Billionaire Acrobat who has bought himself a felon and a BIG stretch.
in reply to Steve Herman

How long will it be before somebody whips up an official-looking DOGE ID, with illegible scribbled signature of approval and a novelty badge, and commits a crime? People are now afraid to even question anything. “Let me in right now and give me all your admin passwords or I’ll call the marshalls”.

Gorgeous @Shonie Hutter. There is beauty even on a gray, gloomy day you might have to look harder to see it.

@Simon Ashcroft It's decadent indeed Simon and such a pleasure to have it brighten up my day!
@Katherine Bond It's definitely luxuriating there in my kitchen. Queen of all she surveys :-D

Petition for #Linux distro maintainers to start packaging #Flatpak with an option to automatically pre-configure it for Flathub, rather than making a potentially console-averse user perform arcane rituals to get it to work.

If it is to be "The Linux App Store", it's gotta be effortless.

in reply to PurpleJillybeans

This is indeed supposed to be basic, this is a solid idea.

(imho optional streamlined remove/install of these utilities in the first place would be great as well, i entirely removed flatpack and snap - something useful on small systems. "Do you want snap? It makes installing easy but uses helluva lot of space on your drive etc.")

But who will enforce the law and restrict and/or punish the violators? Legality means nothing when a majority of those in power don’t want to enforce the law (at least not against their own side.) The press should still call out the illegality so the public is aware and can resist, but I fear too many of the public are ok with it for that to matter (at least for now.)

Psst, that plutonium sphere you're poking with a screwdriver might be dangerous. Shhh.

Hell yeah, #introduction is in nowadays" mood if I read a bit my stream (thanx @hq for the reminder) and since we never did it properly before…

Late 90's, we started as an informal collective making analog tape recordings in a basement, known as c0c, we started thereafter putting music online, changing our name roughly 1X per decade.

Currently all the material is still available on our site(s).

Ultimately, this is what you get when you allow yourself to become overly dependent upon, or indebted to, a particular proprietary solution or a particular company's product or service.

I keep saying in various places that “Technology just isn’t fun any more,” and evidently Mr. Doctorow has not only agreed with me (at least sort of) but has produced a means test for proving that point.

I don’t think I can agree with the point about PDFs. If I save a PNG on my Mac, Spotlight can’t find it when I search for the text in it. But it can find the text in a PDF
