@verge I saw a fun graphic earlier that was all the streamers but their names replaced by “torrent" and couldn't nod my head enough.
I am 100% down to pay for content, but as these companies enshitify, the social contract is broken.
Netflix is on my chopping block. Beyond not making as good content, not grandfathering users in their ever increasing costs and adding ads... Nah. Torrenting isn't that hard.
But ultimately that’s the problem with these services. They market this huge library of good stuff… but what they don’t mention up front is how often all that goes away. A series you may be in the middle of watching is suddenly gone the next day.
And, like all the 24h cable channels, they have to keep *quantity* of content, so they flood the catalogue with cheap shovelware. Meanwhile there’s like 2 titles you care about, and they have 8 ep seasons.
Nope.
Yup and even their shovelware that turns out good, isn't safe. I don't watch Neftlix Originals until S2 at least. They’re worse than Fox back in the day with cancelling shows after a season.
No worth the investment of time, which feeds their churn thinking.

I'm getting big vibes from folks about a renewed appreciation for/use of #libraries as a third space, things like seed libraries, tool libraries, places to work, even canceling streaming &checking out old media (some libraries have streaming services you can use!).
