Visited the Shedd Aquarium on Friday for the first time in many years. The Giant Pacific Octopus was nice enough to hang out right by the front of the tank. #octopus #chicago #eye #detail #photography

Trump rejects Australia's bid for tariff exemptions

in reply to naught101

Who? The US? That ship has saled. The Us consumer doesn’t want to pay what it costs to manufacture here as evidence of all the cheap crap everywhere and discount stores. We can’t compete with global wages, nor should we. Plus we don’t have the factories anymore.
in reply to King3d

Australia.

I would argue that global wages and conditions should be better, in which case Aus (and even more so the US) could more easily compete.

Sabotage is more effective and requires smaller groups of people.

I don't understand who would be dense enough to expect any other outcome here.

We're talking about survival of the species long term, some of us absolutely are not afraid of "jail" or "juries" other than for it slowing their ability to foster change.

Houthis announce countdown to attacks on shipping

"Confirming the readiness of the Yemeni naval operations, whose mission is to confront the Israeli American starvation and terrorist siege of Gaza," senior Ansar Allah member Mohamed Ali Al-Houthi posted in an Arabic statement on X.

"Any escalation will be the responsibility of the Israeli and American enemies."

This follows a four-day deadline declared Friday by Ansar Allah leader Houthi for Israel to lift its blockade on humanitarian aid entry to Gaza or face maritime threats. Israel has blocked aid entry and halted electricity supply to Gaza, putting pressure on Hamas over negotiations.

~~Okay, but they never stopped, so...?~~

EDIT: It would seem I'm fake news this time - the incident in February I was thinking of was suspected of being a Houthi attack, but later turned out not to be. My mistake - this is then a credible threat.

In fact they did stop, immediately after the thing they demanded in order to stop happened.

Spain to impose massive fines for not labelling AI-generated content

Spain's government approved a bill on Tuesday imposing massive fines on companies that use content generated by artificial intelligence (AI) without properly labelling it as such, in a bid to curb the use of so-called "deepfakes".

The bill adopts guidelines from the European Union's landmark AI Act imposing strict transparency obligations on AI systems deemed to be high-risk, Digital Transformation Minister Oscar Lopez told reporters.

"AI is a very powerful tool that can be used to improve our lives ... or to spread misinformation and attack democracy," he said.

Spain is among the first EU countries to implement the bloc's rules, considered more comprehensive than the United States' system that largely relies on voluntary compliance and a patchwork of state regulations.

Excellent! Too many people are bad at identifying them already, and they're still bad
in reply to HellsBelle

Is there any intent to deceive required here? Or would using an AI to touch up one's resume be illegal if not reported?
