Just how screwed up is American society and its politics today?
The answer may be found by looking at HOW each political party's supporters may view this picture.
Democrats may see "Lady Liberty" as being afflicted by the "cancers" of racism, fascism, and pretty much every thought, behind every policy, of the GOP at all levels.
Republicans, on the other hand, now see liberty itself as being the "cancer."
Republican supporters probably see "Libertas" as NOT being on a hospital bed receiving treatment, but rather as being executed by lethal injection... and about time, too!
Rabid christian fascists have probably been saying that "Libertas", the ancient Roman goddess of liberty (upon whom the Statue of Liberty was possibly inspired), is a false god and any who believe in Liberty shall be put to death.
The phrase, "Give me liberty or give me death," used to mean something honourable and inspirational.
Today, if said in the presence of a Republican, that phrase is likely to be taken as an invitation to be immediately shot dead.
