Survey telescopes map the cosmos using all-purpose images, rather than targeted observations — like choosing a wide-angle lens for your camera instead of a telephoto lens.

Over the course of its decade-long survey, Rubin will capture every part of the Southern sky nearly a thousand times, in more detail than has been possible before — creating the greatest cosmic movie ever made.
