- People at the centre
- Freedom of choice
- Safety and security
- Solidarity and inclusion
- Participation
- Sustainability
I spotted a low-hanging fruit. See screenshot.

Current page seems to reflect the actual priorities be on mindless #DigitalTransformation again. Let's fund that and enjoy our future:
People at the centre [of the machine].
Freedom of choice [but not offline].
Safety and security [for AI/cloud vendors].
Solidarity and inclusion [behind your screen].
Participation [with the mouse (or VR??)].
Sustainability [obligatory mention, AI-first].

theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
I tooted earlier that in our Albert Heijn supermarket they switched to self-scan barracks surveilled by underage guards, ready to frisk your shopping basket. Everyone can be a thief, and thus by extension also a MS-13 gang member. Modern logic.
Digital transformation this way helps unravel the fabric of society. It only dehumanises us.
Hell is not other people – it’s being stuck in the ninth circle of an automated telephone service

I do appreciate scanning small purchases to avoid a wait.

in reply to Krystyna • • •@krystyna yes small purchases is fine. A cart full of self-scan shebang is super #enshittification.
What I notice is that people are waiting in long scan queue when it is busy, while the one slightly hidden cashier-operated check-out is idle. People seem to enjoy the chore and the #individualism.
And then you have the scanbro's who smoothly surf through the production line. Ultra-fast suave scan motions in a blur. 20 seconds.. "ah, I did it again". To the jealousy of the common scan folks. 🤣

I've never yet tried to figure out how to use a self checkout.
A year or two back, I walked into a McDonalds and found no menu board or humans to give money to, just some kind of giant human sized tablet thing standing by the entrance.
No apparent slot to take cash so I assume you *have* to use a card. I have no idea how it was supposed to work. I left.

I'm deliberately obtuse and slow at these checkout points, as a small act of resistence.
The way we continue to treat new technology as *progress* by default, and just dump it onto society, will do us in, I'm sure.
The xenophobes with their "illegal alien" stuff are choosing a future where on their death bed, there's only a machine to care for them.. if they have the money. Otherwise they rot on the street in a dehumanised society.
Tech must serve people. It does not.
