In other news, I'm almost there with a version 0.1.0 of FIRES
I've just authentication to land, and then you'll be able to spin up the FIRES reference server and create Labels for labelling things in the future (label vocabularies)
These labels will then be used for the Datasets which will be in 0.2.0 of FIRES
For the full diff of all the work that has gone into FIRES over the last few months, have a look at: github.com/fedimod/fires/compaโฆ

Universal basic income
Australia should call the cost-of-living crisis what it really is โ a wealth gap that could be addressed with a universal basic income and real tax reform to ensure companies and the super wealthy pay their fair share. #auspol
Time to deliver
Labor made a lot of promises and spending commitments during the election campaign, so itโs now time to deliver results and achieve its housing, wages and other economic aims. #auspol
Keir Starmer is again trumpeting his cautious approach to rapprochement with the European Union, and signalling that we must look forward not back on UK/EU relations.
Well, his various comments yesterday might be positive, but looking at his positioning so far & the frustration of EU members with his 'red lines', suggests unless he follows these pious words with real action in negotiations, we just being treated to more declaratory politics without any real substance.
Kate Wilson was deceived into a relationship by #spycops officer Mark Kennedy. She fought a 10 year legal battle to get answers, eventually forcing the police to give her huge amounts of secret reports. The courts ruled that not just the sexual abuse but the broader political spying was unlawful.
Now Kate tells her story. Her book Disclosure: Unravelling the Spycops Files is out on 29 May.

Brand transgressions
With federal elections looming and with global politics in the spotlight, researchers from Edith Cowan University have offered political parties some sage advice, warning that broken election promises could damage the party brand and ultimately lead to a loss of political power. #auspol

The return of Kosmos 482
More than 50 years after trying and entirely failing to reach Venus, a Soviet spacecraft is about to tumble from orbit back down to Earth. #space
@OpenForum, we'll see this night where it crashed

The failed Soviet spacecraft Kosmos 482 could crash to Earth overnight tonight after more than 50 years in the wrong orbit. Here are the latest predictions on the exact time of reentry, and where it could land.Brandon Specktor (Live Science)

Death of taxes
No politician wants to introduce taxes, but Australia may have to as costs increase and revenue declines if the world is plunged into recession by Trump's trade policies. #auspol
The image depicts a spacecraft in space, with a large planet in the background. The spacecraft is cylindrical with a metallic body, featuring a central engine and several protruding components, including antennas and thrusters. It is positioned in the foreground, with the planet dominating the background. The planet's surface is a vibrant orange, suggesting a barren, rocky landscape, possibly Mars. The spacecraft is oriented towards the planet, with its front facing the viewer. The lighting suggests a source of light from the upper left, casting shadows on the spacecraft and the planet. The overall color palette is dominated by oranges and metallic grays, with a hint of blue on the planet's edge.

in reply to Emelia ๐ธ๐ป • • •Keep in mind that FIRES is a *protocol* for sharing moderation advisories and recommendations, it's *not* a blocklist, and we'll have wireframes explicitly showing how the datasets should be integrated into fediverse software.
I do not operate a FIRES server, I do not do moderation.
If I did operate a public FIRES server it'd be one that has datasets on disposable email domains and cloud IPs. These are datasets that already exist but are just csv files you'd want to regularly import if you find them useful, and I'd just be converting them from a csv file over time into a subscribable dataset that can notify you when there's changes to review as a mod)
The thing I'm working on is a reference server implementation of that protocol, such that fediverse developers can play with it.
