Ethical dilemma: Should knowledge be free? - Michael Vazquez and Will Kanwischer
TED-Ed (YouTube)

Puzzle through the ethical dilemma of intellectual property rights, and decide: how should we determine ownership of work?

--

In the city of Ockham, spellcasters invent incantations and publish them in scrolls that others can purchase. Unfortunately, you can’t always afford them. But one day, a friend tells you he uses an illegal duplication spell to copy scrolls. So, do you use his counterfeit scrolls to further your own research? Michael Vazquez and Will Kanwischer explore the ethics of intellectual property rights.

Lesson by Michael Vazquez and Will Kanwischer, directed by Patrick Smith.

Paris Lees on her blazing trans drama: ‘I have this compulsive desire to tell the truth, even about the darkness within’

The warm and darkly funny author and journalist has turned the pain of her upbringing into the BBC’s latest hit show, ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl’

I have yet to see one post let alone media news outlet or pundit bring up how much last night's Republican act of war cost taxpayers I have to point out after they spent the last 3 years talking about the cost of U.S. aid to #Ukraine nonstop.

TIL that the famous mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss *might* have proposed constructing a giant diagram illustrating the Pythagorean Theorem, large enough to be visible from the moon or Mars, in order to communicate with extraterrestrials!

Historians can’t be sure. However ...

“Gauss's writings reveal a belief and interest in finding a method to contact extraterrestrial life, and that he did, at the least, propose using amplified light using a heliotrope, his own 1818 invention, to signal supposed inhabitants of the Moon.”

Donald J. Trump—
Iran made a very big mistake!

Joe Smith replying—
Did they elect you as president too?

The best example here is the Biden rules on transgender athletes, which gave schools latitude to set their own rules but with specific privacy rules and a need to justify any exclusion of a given trans person. It was sued and blocked not by trans people…

@CppGuy @c0debabe I don't see how the design near the bottom is nonsense? it's a cat with bubbles, Japanese text and English text that's a bit jpeggy after a few rounds of editing and reusing. The artifacts are because there used to be sensible Chinese or Japanese ad copy that's been replaced by the "English"

I looked through the rest of the listing and the "cat" kanji getting replaced by English "cat" pretty clearly confirms imo it''s on-image machine translation
