My mom was hardcore bible thumpy and what finally helped me break free was studying religion. I had copies of every religious text pretty much but it was literally taking a course in university that allowed me the insight to break free.
And whenever I encounter someone who tries to tell me the greatness of Jesus, I push back and you can tell really fast they have never even read it. The funniest was the fellow mom during a playdate who threw a fit when I simply said "book of John isn't even written by John."
She lost her mind at me. Let's just say our kids never had a second playdate.
