Interesting: If you ignore a problem that isnt on your doorstep yet, you feel less anxiety. If you do that regularly, you might decide not to involve yourself in "other people's proplems".
Now imagine you are being mistreated and everbody else thinks like this. I'd say that'd be it for you.
Of course there is a difference between "divisive" and "calling out growing fascism" for example.
You - and everyone else - should feel a lot of anxiety because of it. That is a healthy reaction.
