A genetic test could predict the odds of obesity, allowing for early interventions.

From NBC News: "Scientists looked at the genes of millions of people to determine which ones are linked to obesity — and developed a way to screen people before age 5."

Would regulation of industrial food production be part of early intervention? Somehow I think it's a better path to health for all.

Finally replaced some old switches.

We have an odd lighting set up in the living room. The main switch controls two sconces, but there's a ceiling fan on one side and fixture on the other. All were HUE bulbs.

One of the HUE bulbs in the fixture died and since I hate HUE bulbs I decided to get a smart switch and use regular bulbs for the fixture.

Wiring was thankfully straightforward. Since I was there, bathroom got a modern switch update too.

The image shows a white light switch plate mounted on a textured gray wall. The plate has two switches: the left switch is a dimmer with a sliding mechanism, and the right switch is a standard toggle switch with a small green indicator light. Below the switches, the word "BATHROOM" is printed in black text. The dimmer switch is in the middle position, and the toggle switch is in the off position. The overall appearance is clean and modern, with the switches and plate contrasting against the textured wall.

I don’t know why but smart switches don’t seem to exist here in the UK. It makes me so sad. Of course every room is also its own faraday cage.
in reply to Jeff Watkins

@jeffwatkins oh weird! Wonder why? I like switches over bulbs for sure. Or at least bulbs that need hubs.

Ha yeah the faraday cage nature of construction would pose problems.

in reply to Jeff Watkins

@jeffwatkins I can’t vouch for this switch, but I’ve got some Meross plugs and garage door controls and they work pretty well for me. amazon.co.uk/Control-Neutral-R…
in reply to Jack Brewster

@jackbrewster @jeffwatkins Second Meross. That's what I just installed and have a few plugs and the garage door kit as well. Great products

@jackbrewster That might work, but our place is full of wall plates like this.

Ideally, I’d like to replace all three at once. In the US that would likely be 3 separate switches.

Here's the next short video in this new series about Stoic ethics and the rich and complex system of the cardinal and subordinate virtues articulated within their works. This one looks at which texts you'd want to read in order to understand their views!

That’s insightful about how many of us (young and old) can’t countenance war crimes and genocide. The ends do not justify the means.
