We know the difference, but most people don't. I still have discussions with people who argue that building roads is socialism.
I have family that lost everything to socialism, and so do others. It's not a good concept. Social services as part of our democracy are. But those have been foundational since FDR in the Democratic party.

At shortly after 6:00 this morning, I arrived at my polling place again. This time, I saw a number of other people voting. It made me cautiously optimistic about this election. And for once, my optimism was justified!

"Obamacare" much like "Climate Change" are terms cooked up by right-wing think tanks with focus groups to either sound scary (the former) or less scary (the latter compared to global warming).
It's propaganda. What most Americans think of socialism is Soviet Russia (scary) and even there socialism was not strictly adhered to.
What people like AOC call "socialism" the rest of the world's democracies just call universal healthcare, well funded public education, etc. Mind you this is scary for most MAGAs as it would mean non-white people getting those as well.
The failure to understand the difference is sadly evidence of the lack of a well funded US public education system.
