Intel Finds Great Performance With PostgreSQL's AVX-512 Support

Back in April PostgreSQL added AVX-512 support for CRC32 computations. At the time the gains for CRC32 computations with this popular open-source database server were reported to be 50% to 3x faster for x86_64 CPUs able to leverage AVX-512. That AVX-512 support is found with PostgreSQL 18.0 that released in September and now Intel is praising this addition to PostgreSQL …

Conservative Judge Resigns Rather Than Stay Silent On Trump’s Constitutional Assault

Reagan-appointed federal judge Mark Wolf has resigned from the bench in Massachusetts, and his explanation is blunt: he can no longer bear the ethical constraints that prevent judges from speaking out publicly while Trump dismantles the rule of law. This doesn’t happen. Federal judges—especially Reagan appointees—don’t quit to become activists. They stay in their robes […]

Have had an astonishing amount of pierogi. No giant squirrels have attacked yet. Should probably go to bed just in case. (Have no idea why giant squirrels cannot attack while I am somnolent; that might be the pierogis talking.)

“ In the mid-1990s, four men met at The Limited headquarters in Columbus, Ohio: Jes Staley, Leslie Wexner, Jeffrey Epstein, and Arnold Kessler. All four ended up connected to JP Morgan in the run-up to 2008. When the economy crashed, Jamie Dimon—connected to this network through Bank One—was positioned as the savior of American banking. The reality? He cost the economy $30-40 trillion. ”

Look, I know Trump and his mates now own the farms, but it's all just transactional, in return the farmers now own (checks notes, looks on both sides) .... Erm... "The Libs".

This is a horrific violation of basic rights to privacy and freedom of movement. The 1990s National govt was trying to corporatise our public road network when they got voted out in 1999. We need to kick this lot to the kerb too. If Labour won't commit to undoing this, the Greens need to make it a bottom line.

We certainly agree on this. I think you'll find, if you scratch the surface, that the whole point of this policy is to carve off bits of the Waka Kotahi that can be outsourced to for-profit third parties. Like most things the NatACTS do.

Everyone’s excited about #Mastodon 4.5, and rightly so, but you know what’s REALLY outstanding in #Fediverse news this month?

Mastodon <-> PieFed 😍

With PieFed 1.3, issue 1256 was fixed, meaning that Link posts look great when federated out. This means whenever I publish a blog post, then link to it from a post on my PieFed instance, it federates out to Mastodon et al. beautifully.

This makes #PieFed an *outstanding* choice for content-creator community building! 👏
