This week's contribution to #caturday is my little dude who's had a rough few days. I had to take him to the vet on Thursday. Last weekend I brought in my plumeria trees and I think that he ate some vegetation from one of the pots. He spent Thursday morning throwing up food and water. Yesterday he spent the entire day sleeping in my son's closet. Today he started back to being his normal self. Given his age, I was worried for a while but now that he is curled up on my chest, I feel much better.

PostNord ... will no longer deliver letters in Denmark from December 30.

PostNord described the decision as β€œdifficult” but necessary. β€œDanes have become more and more digital, and what was once sent by letter is now received digitally by the vast majority of people,” it said. β€œThis means that there are very few letters left in Denmark.”

It does not spell the end of the letter in Denmark: a private logistics firm called DAO will step into the breach, albeit without the traditional postal infrastructure the country has built up since the early 17th century.

The Palestine Action hunger strike is not being televised

"Six political prisoners – held unlawfully for a year or more on remand, & retroactively deemed to be 'terrorists' for trying to stop the Gaza genocide – have been on hunger strike for many weeks in prison. At least one is already seriously ill."

"There has been blanket silence from the media... & barely any coverage of the appalling conditions".

If I'm still daily-driving #FreeBSD when #16 rolls around (and I hope I will be), someone please remind me to do a ZFS snapshot before upgrading, please? 🀣
in reply to Jason Tubnor πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

I thought that freebsd-update now does an automatic snapshot before upgrading? (my `bectl list` shows a bunch of snapshots I didn't manually make). Are there conditions under which it doesn't? Or did I change some save-my-butt setting to do this automatically?
in reply to Tim Chase

Oh snap, you're right!
How do I boot back into 14.3, then? :O

And which snapshot should I use?

rld@Intrepid:~$ bectl list
BE Active Mountpoint Space Created

15.0-RELEASE_2025-12-05_230715 - - 2.41M 2025-12-05 23:07

in reply to Paul Wilde 😺 (snac2 acct)

yeah, I usually use the boot-loader's "choose a snapshot to boot" menu option, but you can also use bectl to specify "boot $SNAPSHOT next time" with a flag to control "just once" (good for testing) or "I want to boot $SNAPSHOT as my default"

As for which, the most-recent or most-recent-minus-one (#penultimate πŸ˜†), something with a date prior to when you upgraded.

Hang on, does activate -T make the current selection permanent, or does it just remove the selection and default to whatever is latest (FreeBSD 15, in my case)?

How do I make the reversion permanent?

activate [-t | -T] beName
Activate the given beName as the default boot filesystem. If
the -t flag is given, this takes effect only for the next boot.
Flag -T removes temporary boot once configuration. Without
temporary configuration, the next boot will use zfs dataset
specified in boot pool bootfs property.
in reply to R.L. Dane 🍡

If I read it correctly, -t sets the one-boot, and if you decide, no, on the next reboot, I don't want to boot that dataset once, use -T to undo the -t (before rebooting, since rebooting would also clear the boot-once flag because, well, it rebooted once already).

Without -t or -T, just using

# bectl activate $NAME

it would set it for subsequent boots too.

in reply to Tim Chase

Ahhhh, thank you! This is fantastic!!

lol I'm surprised nobody suggested this before, or if they did, I didn't realize they were talking about something that was already done for me automatically, not something I'd have to remember to do before next time. 🀣

in reply to R.L. Dane 🍡

there was a season in which you had to remember to manually snapshot before upgrading and I **never** remembered to do it. The auto-snapshots are such a butt-saver πŸ₯°

Report: "Hamas claims responsibility for assassination of Israeli- backed gang leader in Gaza"

Reportedly, the aim of Shabab's militia - armed & supported by Israel in eastern Rafah - was to establish a so-called β€œsafe zone" for Israel & to weaken the Palestinian resistance.

The group searched Palestinian homes, dismantled resistance devices, killed fighters & seized weapons in coordination with Israel.
