Warnings: Climate is breaking, weather is breaking. Life giving rain, is turning into life taking "rain rivers" soil washed away, farms washed away, livestock killed.

They aren't saying how many farms and livestock have been lost, "because chicken farmers are in trauma"

It is MADNESS to ignore these devastating warnings and expand oil, MADNESS to build pipelines.

MADNESS.

Note that US owned Vancouver Sun does not say climate destruction, does not connect to pipelines, does not connect to droughts or massive forest eating wildfires.

Vancouver Sun, like 95% of English newspapers across Canada is owned by an American Republican activist billionaire. He owns the Province too, and the Calgary Herald, and Edmonton Journal, and National Post etc etc

He prevents climate news. Across all 🇨🇦 papers.

To all the Brits¹, Europeans, Australians, Japanese and Koreans who are outraged at the new ridiculous requirements for visiting the US, I have one simple question:

What the fuck do you think YOUR country has been demanding from potential African visitors for years?

_____
¹ Including me. I am a hypocrite.

as we're talking about short (holiday) stay, pretty sure nothing as extensive as this list. Conformation of being employed, and having sufficient means during their stay plus insurance. Plus oversight of hotels. I mean all the regular visa questions. Please correct me if I'm wrong and if so then point me to the right (Schengen) information.
in reply to Puurava

@Puurava that is what the website asks for. The reality is that you have to produce it in spades. If you can't produce extensive bank statements, a job contract, a housing contract, serious covering letter explaining exactly why you are visiting, what you are doing, who you know there, your full travel history, your life in the home country and why you are coming back, you ain't getting a visa.

I have friends resident in the UK, housed in stable housing and working who were refused a Schengen visa to go visit family in Norway. They had not given sufficient detail. The UK is worse

in reply to Puurava

@Puurava sorry, I just meant the official guidance that you find online for schengen visas. It was sloppy. I think that each embassy or subcontracted visa processing company issues has its own site.
in reply to Roberto von Archimboldi

@RobertoArchimboldi Thank you. So this is exactly what I meant. Nothing like the USA. Proof of identity, means, reason and insurance. Just like the things I had/have to fill in when visiting most countries outside Schengen. Some a bit more, but nothing like USA now.
in reply to Puurava

@Puurava yes, but see my original post about the reality of what you have to do to get a visa. The decision maker has enormous discretion. Simply producing the documents they ask for is insufficient to get you a visa if you are African.

With the UK there is the further hurdle that even when you have the visa the border guard also has to satisfy herself that you are a genuine visitor. At a bare minimum you need a return ticket. If you are visiting a friend, they better be on standby to take a call. You are advised to travel with job contract, housing contract and other proof of your connections to the country where you live.

in reply to Roberto von Archimboldi

@RobertoArchimboldi Required to have the papers with you is far less intrusive as the original statement this thread started with: comparing the new USA rules with Schengen, suggesting it's the same. It simply is not. UK has left Schengen, so they have different (harsher I guess) rules.
in reply to Puurava

@Puurava Unfortunately, most people from the 'developing' world cannot get visas to visit Europe, even if they can afford it. What they put us through is intentionally cruel, opaque and expensive. And the vast majority of applications end in unexplained rejections.

Read some of the other replies to my post for what people have experienced.

in reply to David Njoku

I don't want to sound rude, but where's the evidence? Just show me the links to the official websites or perhaps just the official Schengen rules. If you can't provide me with that it's just hearsay.
in reply to Puurava

@Puurava That's totally fine. You really don't have to believe me, or the lived experience of anyone else here.
in reply to David Njoku

Well somebody else in this thread was nice enough to privide me with the link. Apparently he wasn't aware of the rules either since they proofed me right.
