the last 20% of a project is always the hardest, and with LLMs you're stepping into the last 20% with no idea what happened during the first 80% of the coding. I'm encouraged to use it at work, and I've been surprised at how effective the best models can be at knocking out boilerplate and even basic CRUD stuff in its entirety. But, I also find there comes a point where you're just wasting your time trying to cajole it into doing something good when things get more subtle.

Now, I'm not a hunter so I can't say I know about the validity of that, but I _am_ a software developer, and I can ensure you that I -- at least in part -- do not think think about problems in order to code, I code in order to think about problems.

Back in early 2023 I was giving the then new copilot a try in some FE tasks. I used it for about a month or two before I realized it was wasting so much of my time debugging insidious little edge cases and gotchas. Never touched it since until recently for some unit tests, had to rework 90% of them.
Amd that was in less than 6 mths? I'm currently resisting the push in my workplace to ise AI to generate test cases. All I've seen them do is parse the user story, add 'verify ' et voila!
60 PR's a day is scary. I imagine most projects do not get so many in a whole week. I'd imagine if he's doing that, then he, the code writer, probably hasn't reviewed all the code he is sending.
In what world was it considered ok for a Dev to crank out 60 PRs a day of code the Dev didn't writethem self? Like did no one foresee the issues with that?

I came to 🐘 in November 2022. I was on the biggest server until Dec 2025 (so a couple days ago) when I moved over to this server because it's run by a good admin and fearless leader.

I'm an amateur radio operator with a technician class license for about 20 years. I mainly focus on 2M simplex voice but I keep threatening to get into CW and 10M with radios I inherited from my grandfather.

We're thinking of getting fresh water fish tanks again. That's almost certainly a bad idea.
@sarae We had planted tanks back in Colorado and it was great. But out here we haven't done it yet. We were doing the low tech variety of planted tank. No CO2 injection or anything.
It's a bit challenging since we don't own. It sucks moving fish tanks lol. But we do miss having them.
I did an extremely low tech planted tank in a 10 gallon in the living room -- deeeep gravel, lots of moss, anubias, duckweed, big peace lily, no heat, no lid, little sponge filter, a bunch of white cloud minnows and some snails
two years in it's like a little jewel box and the only problem is how much moss it grows every summer, I have to give it away

I would like to do one that doesn't need heat or a light. I was considering doing more of a pond style tank on the patio. But we have herons and egrets in the neighborhood that could be problematic.
We could also put it in some west facing windows that gets loads of sun exposure although it would be above carpet then.
Before bed we usually watch YouTube videos of fish tank builds and tours. The channels in the UK are the most engaging these days. I think it's the accents.

@sarae We have a aquaponic system in the back where I tried to grow Tilapia, but they couldn't handle the cold and I wasn't willing to heat an outdoor tank ($$$). My (adult) son has a lot of koi, but they keep getting too big for whatever container/tank/pond available and then dying from way too much waste. Need a large pond I think... they get too big.
@sarae We once had a bluegill in our pond. For a week. An egret kept on trying to eat it. Finally, a raccoon dived in and ate it. Small lake definitely required, or armoring. (we have metal gridding over the pond at the moment for the koi)
@sarae @ai6yr If the water is slack the resulting cat tails might be all the protection the fish need. That's how it went in my parents' pond. Somebody will eventually need to cull the plants so they don't erase the pond, though.

by the time I have debugged and refactored the code I didn't write so it's ready to commit, it would have been faster to write it myself.
