Delaware's acting U.S. Attorney Julianne Murray resigned her post on Dec. 12, and the courts appointed her successor immediately, an unusual turn of events after months of questions about the legality of Donald Trump's attempts to fill federal prosecutor roles around the country with loyalists.
Murray, who has served as both "interim" and "acting" U.S. attorney for the District of Delaware since the summer, posted her resignation on social media early on the morning of Dec. 12.
At the same time, an order signed by Delaware District Court Judge Colm Connolly was posted on the Delaware federal court website appointing Benjamin Wallace as U.S. attorney.
Murray hadn't previously been a prosecutor but had championed conservative causes as an attorney and led the state's Republican Party before she was appointed in her temporary role this summer.
That initial "interim" appointment expired this fall, but the Trump administration kept her in office by changing her title to "acting".
