"Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are" -- Mason Cooley

This announcement left a literal bitter taste in my mouth.

#ScribesAndMakers Dec 13. Is there a creative activity you used to enjoy but now feels like a chore? Do you think there is anything you could do to make it enjoyable again?

😭😭😭 I have been really struggling to write for the last two years since I had to stop working. There are lots of reasons for that: chronic illness; a needy cat; and, frankly, trauma from an abusive work environment. But knowing the reasons doesn't make it easier to sit down and do it again.

I've been making up stories>

>since before I knew how to write, so this is a seriously unsettling and depressing situation. I'm just trying to be patient with myself, not overdo it, and find the pleasure where I can.

I have finished a few scenes recently, although I started writing them months ago. But editing, which is what I really need to do with Synthetic Agency, just fills me with The Fear. It's vexing.

in reply to Ruby Jones

I'm sorry to hear tgat! Maybe push the editing a year into the future and just concentrate on writing for fun now?

Idk. I'd like to help.

in reply to Anderlandbooks

@anderlandbooks I appreciate the thought, but it's not something I am looking for advice on. Believe me, I know much more about my situation and what works for me.
in reply to Ruby Jones

I'm sorry - yes, of course. You know best what works for you.

Here is something I found for myself, maybe it'll work for you, as well:

Give yourself a break from the "shoulds". They are what can turn writing from a joy to a chore.

Then follow the joy to something else, maybe a new story, maybe drawing, maybe reading a new genre - anything that puts joy back into your mind.

I have recently published a couple of books that came from pursuing the joy. It took years, but hey, I had fun writing them when I needed it.

Drop site:

At least 12 Palestinians killed as torrential rains, high winds, and flash floods batter Gaza. 13 homes have collapsed and more than 27,000 tents have been destroyed.

Broadcom’s AI Accelerator Business Is Booming, But the Stock Is Falling. Could This Be the Most Underrated AI Play Right Now? byteseu.com/1623511/ #business

@Rasta @MAJ1 Am off to bed am very tired and hope to have a longer sleep .. Not napping during the day for a few days as of late so shorted on hours ...tummy has been out of sorts for a couple of days and afraid of anything happening ...

Extrait long suit ⤵️

The Israeli authorities continue to block the entry of basic shelter materials, fuel and water infrastructure, leaving people in Gaza exposed to entirely preventable harm after Storm Byron, says Oxfam.

The storm has swept across the Gaza Strip over the past few days, killing at least 14 people and injuring others as harsh winds, relentless rain and collapsing structures crush families already displaced by Israel’s devastating assault on the enclave.

#WritersCoffeeClub 13 Dec: What have you written for another writer?

Nothing except for beta feedback and reviews.

Oh, I did write the blurbs for one of my authors. But I had to, on account of her being dead.
