Modern technology has degraded to the point where I can't trust my basic digital kitchen scale anymore.

I know I need 200g of oats for 5 portions of overnights and by now I have a good feel for the right amount and it did work out exactly like that. But the scale reported it as 150g, clearly wrong.

I'm now seriously considering looking for an old analogue scale, which would be far bulkier and much less convenient, but at least it would work.

Problem solved. And the solution is very pretty

Apparently it was made in the 1950s, much older than I am, and it’s so satisfying to use, making metallic clunking noises, and it will probably work for the rest of my life.

Oh, and it was cheaper than replacing my weirdly inaccurate electronic scale, thanks to the local second-hand market.

A win across the board for old technology.

I have one of those in the kitchen. Also a beam balance scale with sets of metric and imperial weights. My go-to cookery book is Mrs Beaton and she’s in imperial.

I now have over 200 games with them... never played a single one of them.

It's messed up that Apple can lock you out of your account *and* devices with no apparent recourse, but, in the same way many small businesses rely on Meta for marketing to their customers (regardless of their misgivings with the company), Paris' livelihood has relied on Apple for a long time. Late stage capitalism is annoying like that sometimes.

I've not made a false dichotomy as @vmbrasseur suggested.
If Paris were a designer,or architect,or anyone who *didn't* work as a software developer & software development educator, my analysis would differ greatly. Folks like that share no blame for Cook's & Jobs' abusive behavior.
By contrast, Paris spent a career collaborating w/ $AAPL & encouraging others to exuberantly join its toxic ecosystem.
Paris *should* get his data back but hopefully he'll swear off promoting $AAPL again.
