This is simple: in our system the government is elected by a majority of voters, and that is presumed to reflect the majority interest of the people as a whole. So people in TX, LA, and MS are barbarians. They shouldn't have libraries. Their kids should not be well educated and should not get good jobs, because that is the choice that their parents made.

Libertarianism is not about social liberty. There's a reason why so many "libertarians" eventually join the Republican Party.
They want the freedom to walk all over other people, without those people having the right to say "no". That's not liberty, that's entitlement. They want to be entitled to do whatever they like to whoever they choose.
This is why I would like to dump words like left, right, conservative, and liberal. We only have people who are for human and environmental rights, and those who are for privilege. Maybe some day we will have people who have different approaches to human and environmental rights who will give themselves names, but right now--this is what we have.
I have to admire the optimism of those who truly believe in libertarianism. But there are few, if any, bright lines dividing "my" rights from "your" rights - that's why our laws are so complicate and trials with things like juries so necessary.
Consequently along with admiring their optimism, I also find libertarians to have a very poor grasp of human nature.
