So, now we live in an very specific and horrible kind of planned fantasy economy where government and private money is dumped into the concept of AI, not even the technology as it exists, but one that is complete fantasy
Then this capital is taken to consolidate media, bribe officials, make their best attempts at bypassing democracy
What is being allowed for the idea of a fantasy, a technology that does not even exist
Its truly the dumbest way things could have played out
Ramin Honary likes this.
And the reasoning given is that there is this other planned economy, and planned economies are bad
So, naturally, we have to have one too, so we can beat it, by giving all the capital to a few far-right white supremacists to do whatever they want bc only doing that can we "win"
And in the meantime that same group of people are building bunkers and only proving conclusively they can't do what they claim they can, which should have already been obvio
All is ready for my special meal for tonight's visitors. I made the fish stock from Halibut bones on Friday, it is ready to be turned into the soup, which will have beetroot, celery & carrots, along with pieces of Coley (Pollock) marinated in Soy sauce. For the main dish, the casserole of Yorkshire mutton in chicken stock with a multitude of veggies is now in the oven, cooking super-slowly well below simmering, the flavours highly concentrated and super-intense. For the cheese we have Comte and goats cheese. Sharing honest food with good friends, in difficult times, that too is resistance.

Yes it fucking sucks when you don't have insurance, and oh boy have I been there. But even in the most uninsured state of existence, I think 18 grand for supplies is a bit suspect. Even running a pump, which is almost universally covered for supplies by provincially funded pump programs btw, even in provinces undergoing insane health care attacks like in Alberta (where I live), I'm not sure I could hit 18k a year. Even disregarding that coverage.
Note that I'm not the sole experience in a disease that's complex. So grain of salt. But even if I put in an infusion set every two days, ran CGM, uninsured insulin, basically run the most expensive path I can, I can't hit 18k doing the math. Most I could hit in extreme math is about 6k. Still ridiculous, don't get me wrong, and still a defeating expense in times of shrinking incomes, over egregious government spending and the government protecting the ultra rich who are hoarding wealth. But you don't fight a fight like this with overinflating figures. This isn't the US where a vial of insulin costs $600. So I don't know where these figures are coming from.
