The motorcar lobby has really done a number on Americans when it comes to the idea of "jaywalking".

I'm watching A Gift For Christmas (2017). The female protagonist is #cycling furiously and not watching the road ahead and runs over the male protagonist who is using what appears to be a pedestrian crossing in #Philadelphia.

The "#jaywalking is bad" culture is so ingrained that it is presented as perfectly normal that not only do the police allow the careless speeding rider to get off scott free, they even let the rider claim the victim pedestrian's personal effects (including keys) and hand the perpetrator the victim's pet without blinking.

Is #MelissaHill's A Gift To Remember just as steeped in anti-pedestrian thinking?

Reading Title 75 Chapter 35 of the #Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, it appears that this isn't merely a fictional conceit. The law really is this bad.

The cyclist might be liable for a $10 fine (sic!) under §3502.

Good grief.

In a sane country, the pedestrian *always* has precedence, surely? Maybe exceptions for motorways or something, where pedestrians are actually prohibited.

@bytebro

Enjoy 75 PACS §3543 and §3544 (part of the #Pennsylvania Vehicle Code). Anywhere other than at a pedestrian crossing, all traffic has right of way over pedestrians crossing the road. There's no right to use the carriageway if there's a footway. And if there's no footway, pedestrians using the carriageway have to give way to everyone else.

palegis.us/statutes/consolidat…

The motorcar lobby pushed hard, name-calling pedestrians using roads "#jaywalking", to get laws like this enacted across the U.S.A..

Other interesting items of the PA Vehicle Code that are unlike the U.K.:

Ambulances have to obey the speed limit and stop at red lights, but funeral vehicles can go through red lights. Pedestrians, depending from city law, can be fined for disobeying their red lights at pedestrian crossings. Right-on-red is allowed. Cyclists are not permitted to pass stopped cars at pedestrian crossings, and must obey speed limits.

The backlash around the 2026 World Cup ticketing scheme reinforces a broader problem: FIFA has steadily eroded its own legitimacy through corruption, opacity, and relentless commercialisation. #FIFA #worldcup2026 #Ultras #Football #UEFA ##Corruption #Political 🧵

This is not inevitable. But the trajectory is clear: institutional greed and political entanglement at the top, increasingly organised radicalisation at the base. 12)

I do have a question regarding loops. Is this only an issue for me or does someone else experience the same?

If you upload a landscape video on the web UI it does look fine while uploading in all the previews. As soon as the upload is completed the video is getting shrunk down hard for the web making it nearly impossible to consume.

Anyone found a solution for that?

#Loops #LoopsBug #LoopsWeb #LoopQuestion #Fediverse

in reply to Xanatos

nope. this was recently changed. Older videos are not affected. Real shame but I guess it really wants very hard to be a TikTok clone. Portrait or die.
in reply to Beko Pharm

@bekopharm
What a shame that does make the service unusable for me as I want to use it to share landscape short videos.

Hopefully it is getting changed back or adds a setting to allow such videos.

in reply to Xanatos

@bekopharm
Could be solved by adding a "is landscape" selection on upload. This would allow people to filter those videos out if the want.

Add a setting for each user if they want to see landscape videos as well or not. Just like the language filter on Mastodon works.

in reply to Xanatos

@bekopharm I get posts in languages I deselected all the time because they have tags I follow. Like how you're supposed to build your personal feed.
Language filtering in Mastodon doesn't work.
in reply to Yora

@yora that's funny. The other way around people would complain that following tags doesn't show everything 🤪

(also Lang isn't detected but set and not all Fedi software sets lang at all or the user set it wrong)

@Yora
in reply to Xanatos

god damn it, and it crashed again. ffs. 70% of the time I try to upload any short there it just doesn't or dies or whatever and never am I told what the damn reason is. Getting _really_ tired of Loops. That rewrite seems to have made everything worse.
in reply to Beko Pharm

@bekopharm
Most upload issues I got was because my file was to large or it is longer than a minute.

But yeah a missing error message and no possibility to retry is really annoying. You need to start from scratch every time.

Also the description was shortened to 200 but the UI still uses 250 as a value.

Also I found no information where to create bug reports.

in reply to Xanatos

got all kinds of errors on the browser console but that are usually _wrong_ errors. Like character limit while the textbox says all good, or unsupported video codec (eh, h264???) or indeed "too long" on a 20s snippet.

This is totally broken.

in reply to Beko Pharm

@bekopharm Yeah it seems like the UI does not correctly reflect the settings of the instance ...

As you said textbox to long cause the backend is set to 200 but the UI shows 250 as a limit ...

It was much better a version before ...

in reply to Xanatos

found a pop-out button. That has a fullscreen button. Ah well. I tried (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
This entry was edited (2 weeks ago)
in reply to Beko Pharm

@bekopharm Yeah found that button as well. At least that should correct the video size, but I think they do shrink it on upload and stick with that file instead ...

But the service is not usable for the content I do upload with that limitation. Also as I said I have no clue how to report that "bug".

I tried tagging the creator directly but didn't get a response. Which is understandable but doesn't solve my issue at all.

Mario Kart 64 is a 1996 kart racing game for the N64. It is the second installment in the Mario Kart series after 1992's Super Mario Kart for SNES. 🏁

The game was intended to be released alongside the N64 itself in mid-1996 but was delayed after development resources were directed towards Super Mario 64, itself a launch title for the system. 🗓️

Mario Kart 64 sold 9.87 million copies worldwide, making it...
