De I.S.-tentoonstelling in Leiden is frappant, want ’t zijn geweldige schilderijen, en leuk, vanwege het raadsel van de identiteit van de schilder. Kunsthistorisch onderzoek begint met kijken naar ‘wat er eigenlijk te zien is’. groene.nl/artikel/onbekende-sc…

"We're no longer the young hip cool people."
Correct. Generation X knows we'll ALWAYS be the young hip cool people 😏

As a millenial, I just want to say that this post is not representative of the entire generation. 🤣

Spotted this word yesterday, so I would like to challenge you to see how you would say it, as a single compound word if possible, in your language.
The Bamanankan word "ɲɔgɔnfaamubaliya" (2words + 2suffixes), means "mutual-understanding-absent/exclusion-ness" or "the quality/state in which mutual understanding is absent/excluded."
So far I've got:
German: Ausschluss gegenseitigen Verständnisses.
Dutch" afwezigheid van onderling begrip.
I'm sure you ccan do better! #Language
in reply to Leif Samuelsson

@leffe Hmm, correct me if I’m wrong: shared + understanding + free? If so, that’s awesome. Does it work at a noun, something like “conflict stems from samförståndsfritt"? That was the phrase I saw that particular word in.
in reply to Cassana 🍻

I actually made it up from parts, which is legit, but probably never used as such. In your sentence, it would be more like "brist på samförstånd" or more contrived as "samförståndsbrist", where brist means lack, lacking.

Ich bin so alt

Ich habe auf der Weihnachtsfeier von der verwechselten Neujahrsansprache erzählt und nur in Gesichter mit Fragezeichen geblickt.
in reply to echopapa

Ich bin alt, aber nicht so alt, dass ich damals schon volljährig war.
in reply to Michael Keukert 💉

Bezüglich "ich bin so alt": Ich bin Handball-Fan. Und neulich hat "unser" Trainer (Toto Jansen) ein Interview nach einem Spiel gegeben, wo er einen seiner Spieler lobte. Daraufhin merkte der Interviewer an, dass der Spieler in dem Jahr geboren war, als Toto als Spieler in der deutschen Mannschaft Weltmeister geworden war.

Man merkte in Toto's Gesicht, wie er realisierte, dass er alt wird :-)

#WordWeavers Dec 14: Are your characters incapacitated by injuries, or do they brush them off as flesh wounds?

I try to be medically realistic, unless you count a brain injury that allows its victim to dimension-hop.

One thing that often amazes me is when authors say "My character has injury X. What effect would this have on them? How long would they take to recover?"

To me it's clear as day that you decide how incapacitating your plot requires an injury to be, and then pick one that suits...
