A brief history of Aboriginal Mourning Day/Survival Day/Invasion Day protests.

No, they're not a new thing.

Australia Day originally held on 30 July 1915 as a fundraiser for WW1 soldiers.

Within three years of the Australia Day date being moved to 26 January in 1935, there were Aboriginal protests calling for equality: youtu.be/cqwrqwCtNL8?si=ggNxoL…

Something very nice happened at work here in occupied #Minnesota. A colleague with whom I've only interacted a few times (and who works in a different department) came by to check on me (one of the few POC in the department) and asked if he, an attorney, could give me his number in case something happened. He has other legal contacts and is part of an #ICE rapid response network.

This was a surprising and small but extremely meaningful gesture. :) So despite everything, I can feel hopeful...

Apologies for posting so much today. I'll stop with the music for now. Borrowing from King Gizzard, my heart is a mess, my cables are in knots and somehow I'll need to debug myself.

So much going on 😞

What would be the fastest and easiest way to clog a respirator? Blowing activated charcoal at someone?
in reply to feld

corn starch should work. Maybe better and cheaper than activated carbon.
in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson oooh especially because moisture would really gum it up

So if we got leaf blowers that can blow large amounts of corn starch or flour into the masks of undesirables, they'd be forced to take off the masks to breathe

A then you can hit them with chili powder, cinnamon, etc....

in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson flour is a little dangerous though because you can cause the air to combust. Wonder if corn starch may have the same risk (or is this a feature??)
in reply to feld

probably about the same chance but feature or bug? Ehh? Also has to be a pretty specific concentration and usually enclosed.
in reply to feld

which is a lengthy way to say I think it's an amazing idea!

in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson this and recharging fire extinguishers with paint seem like something people should be doing

What about grease? The try to arrest someone, grease them up so they can't grab them lol

in reply to feld

😂 "like a greased pig or greased lightning! Olive oil is ironically(?) #antifascist :success:

Battery powered leaf blowers are #Antifa superweapons

in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson you know what else is great? Veterinary grade lube like they use when you are inseminating cows etc. I believe you can get it in a powder form and just add water.
in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson J-Lube comes in powder form. I'm sure there are others, but that's the kind my wife gets.
in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson J-Lube in a super soaker?

Oh, the imagery you just planted in my brain... LOL!

But, yes. You can mix it to the consistency you desire, and a little goes a long way.

I think* our recipe is 5 gallons of water, a container of Joy, and tablespoon-ish of J-Lube. It needs to rest a bit for the powder to hydrate properly and mix.

*This is from memory, so don't take it for gospel and the recipe makes bubble solution for ginormous bubbles. It is very slick/slippery.

in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson also you know how mad they'll get when you coat them and all their Temu gear and personal rifles with paint? Hahaha fucking classic
in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson jury will let you off if they arrest you and charge you if you use the Nickelodeon Gak defense

"Your honor, Gakking is hilarious and not a threat to the officers"

"Case dismissed"

in reply to feld

hahahaha 😂

You can't do that on the revolution won't be televised.

in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

what about a hopper for corn starch that feeds into the blower?

A 3D Printed fitting to facilitate that?

#3DPrinting

in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson well in Washington State you'll have to send the government a copy of the hopper first for their approval before you can print it LOL
in reply to feld

lol, let's just say I'm definitely in a less regulated state than Washington
in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson
in the open air you get a pretty impressive, yet brief flash of fire.
Not harmful, but will scare the shit out of someone who brainlessly fires a gun in the middle of it.
And I believe cornflour is worse/better, because its finer and will both mix with and hang in the air easier.
in reply to feld

@SrRochardBunson
Mythbusters covered this years ago, any kind of aerosolized carbohydrate can make a big fireball (they used coffee creamer to test the myth). Not recommended to try at home.

@MisterMadge
Ahh yeah, if you're trying to, right? Not accidental? I remember how hard it was for then to catch aerosolized gas vapor.
in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson @MisterMadge
It's a cool trick I learned in high school. Take a package of powdered creamer like you'd find at your table at the diner. Pour the powder in your hand without anyone noticing. Light up a disposable lighter. Make a theatrical magicians wave over the flame a few times, and then drop the powdered creamer over the flame. It looks like you magically made a fire ball. It would burn out quickly and cause no harm with such a little amount.
in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson If you look up "grain elevator explosion", there're a few news reports per year of one blowing up randomly. So it's frequent enough that they put a lot of work into mitigating the risk factors.

in reply to Sir Rochard 'Dock' Bunson

@SrRochardBunson thinking more about this: yes activated charcoal is kind of expensive in bulk, but lots of Minnesotans have wood furnaces with a lot of ash they need to "recycle"
