Bears. Beets. Battle royale collaboration.

Soon you’ll be able to play as The Office’s Dwight Schrute and Michael Scott in Fortnite when new skins of the characters debut in the game’s item shop. It’s one of Fortnite’s stranger collaborations, but it makes more sense when you consider how many people are still watching the show.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his severely disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

I wrote about Wael and how our caregivers are an extension of us.

Without them we can’t do basic activities of daily living.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

He didn’t even get to say goodbye to his father.

ICE caused his death & unnecessary suffering.

Now they’re refusing to allow Maher to attend the funeral.

Absolute ghouls.

I wonder when it will truly click for them 🤷‍♀️ I mean, they could try and slot Kid Rock in there I guess!

Turns out that Microsoft's BitLocker security for the data stored on your hard drive is just a placebo.

Might as well give your password to everyone:

Just cause you can, don’t mean you should.

#askfedi What is the best oldschool #forum software one can self-host on a small server?

"Best" as in some tradeoff of the following:

* bugfree (or not many bugs)
* safe, as in no or no discovered CVEs
* features for users, mods and admins
* maintainability
* safe, as in allows invite-only, and maybe review posts before being actually visible

Background is, that I have been thinking about hosting one for a long time, but it would probably be only for friends and friends of friends.

I have been very happy with Discourse. The admin tools are great, it's not super demanding, and I at least find it much more pleasant to use than the PHP-based software. I've been running two sites for a few years and I still recommend it.

Heavy front-end, though. :'(

It's nice to use day-to-day, but waiting for it to load when searching for random things on the internet is kind of painful.

anyone notice the problem in xkcd.com/2109/ basically doesn’t exist anymore?

since word processing applications will automatically remove this sort of thing and try to intelligently determine what you meant

in reply to R.L. Dane 🍵

@rl_dane I use them to write stuff down. Because I like looking at nicely formatted text. And it’s often just easier than using a markdown or typesetting language. Sometimes it’s the other way ’round, I’ll write math formulas with Typst all day.

I run away from anything that deals with text that doesn't have vi positioning/editing keys. XD
