This week's E-Sylum has a piece on a 2004 Florida United Numismatics Convention note which honours firefighters. Several key notes on the piece:
- the year 1679 was when the first fire engine was imported into the US and the first paid fire department was founded.
- Microlines read "Saint Florian" the patron saint of firefighters.
- The year 1736 was when the first volunteer fire company was formed (I suspect some impromptu ones happened at any particular fires before that though)
- 1852 hidden in the fire truck was when the first fire alarm system in Boston MA was installed.
- 10/9 is Fire Prevention Week each year
