The Russian Federation should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual oblasts and republics, so that governments can better represent their people.
The United States should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual states, so that governments can better represent their people.
@mattjhodgkinson Elected "mayors" should be abolished (along with the PCCs) and powers and money returned to individual councils, so that they can better represent their people.
@reiddragon Actually I don't think so. That's literally what the r right wing libertarians more or less want, a completely castrated federal government. What is exactly what project 2025 is about. What DOGE was about.
Because again dealing with the individual states, especially if they have to compete against each other, it's way easier. @eunews
@reiddragon If memory serves, at least for some libertarians the end game are city states governed by corporations. With that pesky democracy thing gone for good, replaced by the rule of money, or as they like to put it, genius.
Ignoring that being rich is in our system seldom correlated with even being clever. @eunews
@yacc143 it's not libertarians that dominate the american right wing, it's technofascists (like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and most other Silicon Valley types) and theofascists (like The Heritage Foundation). Genuine right wing libertarians are a fringe minority within yhe american right wing
@yacc143 only while Democrats are in power so Republican-ran states can do their bullshit, but now that Republicans are in charge of the federal government, they're violating the authority of states all the time, sending ICE and the national guard all over the place to seize control of places ran by democrats that aren't cooperating doing the fascism
@reiddragon @yacc143 seconding this - nobody in the US (aside from Libertariens maybe) wants a small government. When the GOP says they want to reduce the size of government, they mean specifically austerity and the ending of social welfare programs. But they're very happy to have a very large police state to enact their own right-wing agenda.
@alessandro everyone willingly joins the EU and has to put in the work and can leave at any time if desired, and also the EU can't override decisions taken by local governments (the only lever the EU parliament and associated institutions have to influence local decisions is by suspending access to EU funds), meanwhile in the US there's Trump either threatening to or actually sending troops to states not aligned with his agenda (and then in Russia the federation bit is more of a formality, with Putin and those close to him being basically gods within the country)

Or the Russian Federation, which was very much an imperialist project, unlike the EU.
