Tommy John surgery, once reserved for saving the careers of #MLB pitchers, is now commonplace among teenage athletes. More than half of these procedures are performed on 15-19-year-olds. Tommy John, now 81, laments that the surgery has become a routine procedure for children whose bodies are still developing. Young people are being positioned to relentlessly focus on one sport at an early age, but athletes who play more than one sport actually have reduced injury rates.
