#ScribesAndMakers Jan 1: Does the change to a new calendar year affect your creativity in any way?

It's mostly symbolic, but it does feel like a fresh start. I mean, I wish that the end of the year was the Solstice, because that would make the symbolism fit our natural environment, but it's close enough.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 5: Make a story based on the misheard lyric you shared yesterday.

The ants came on the breeze, gentle as anything. They covered every surface, including people. It didn't matter how many we smashed or poisoned, they kept coming. We had to just get used to them. Eating and sleeping and working with ants everywhere. Showers were some relief, but they clogged the drains, too. After two years, they disappeared. We missed them in a way. They were a way of life.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 6: How long does it usually take you to decide if you like a piece of visual art?

I get a strong impression right away, usually. I have to admit, I don't spend time with visual art if it doesn't arrest me right away. Perhaps that's impatient of me.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 7: How long does it usually take you to decide if you like a piece of music?

Usually seconds. I have a low tolerance for something that doesn't work for me aesthetically. That said, very often even if I'm not concentrating on the lyrics, I'll realize that they're a huge part of what keeps me coming back to a song.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 8. How long does it usually take you to decide if you like a book?

Within the first chapter. It *has* to have compelling narration and dialogue. If that doesn't grab me, I can't keep going. It's a slog.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 9 Is there a difference in how long it takes you to decide if you like different mediums? Why do you think that is?

I don't really understand the intent behind the question. A medium is a medium. It can contain many genres, styles, and tropes. They'll overlap with some other media but not with others. I mean, I really like prose, film, and comics, so I'm biased towards narrative, but like, architecture can be breathtaking.

#ScribesAndMakers⁩ Jan 16: You wake up to find someone staring at you. Who is it, and why are they there?

The cat. Just staring. With that blank look that makes them look intensely cute and very stupid at the same time.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 19. Have you ever experienced interactive art? If so, can you tell us about it?

A lifetime of D&D. Loads of theatre sports in high school. Frankly, any performance is interactive since you're in the room with the audience, and their mood *matters* to the show.

#ScribesAndMakers Jan 20: When it comes to theatre, do your prefer tragedy or comedy?

I don't really prefer one over the other, but if it's a "that's all you get for the rest of your life" situation, then I choose comedy because I can always use a laugh, but I have to be In A Mood to watch the hero slowly destroy himself (occasionally herself).
