I certainly don’t go out of my way to focus on the darker side of human nature, or wallow in unpleasant feelings, but when bad things happen, people feel bad. I won’t sugar-coat it. If you think about, say, Jerya’s and Railu’s experiences at the slave market, I wasn’t going to pretend it was all a harmless misunderstanding.
