in reply to Emmy Song • • •@emmysong A lot of people are on the #fedivers to escape #enshittification . The results of this #research won't be representative if you ask people to accept the lengthy terms and conditions of #Google and #Zoom to give up their #privacy just to participate.
I would suggest to use #FramaForms or #cryptpad and #BigBlueButton instead.

I agree. The use of these proprietary tools will almost certainly lead to a warped representation in your investigation, esp. where it comes to important socio-cultural aspects that have shaped the Fediverse to what it currently is.

And keep in mind that Princeton University is *supposed to* be an elite university representing high standards.
Requiring participants to use Google and Zoom is an ethical violation. @smallcircles pointed to the statistical bias that non-free software introduces into your survey, and
@AstaMcCarthy pointed to *practical* #FreeSoftware and servers running free software that you can use. So no #TyrannyOfConvenience excuses.
