"''I don't want to drive housing prices down,' he said — as seen in the admittedly off-putting animation above. 'I want to drive housing prices up for people who own homes.'

You don't need to be a stable genius to understand where the winners and losers are in this scenario."

"If you own a home — and particularly if you own a few, maybe one in Manhattan and one in West Palm Beach — this sounds pretty good. If you are someone looking to buy a home, though? Oh well!"

“'Existing housing, people that own their homes, we’re gonna keep them wealthy,' he said in a room full of people and also cameras. 'We’re gonna keep those prices up. We’re not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody that didn’t work very hard can buy a home.'

Oh? People haven’t worked hard enough? Really?"

"Because 52 percent of Millennials and Gen Zers have a full-time job and at least one “side-hustle.” They call it “polyworking” now, because apparently we just need to keep making up cutesy terms and writing trend pieces to make up for the fact that nearly half of US workers make below a living wage."

"I want to first highlight something that got a little lost in the chaotic news cycle of the past few days, and that’s the devastating economic data that was released on Friday. The data showed inflation climbing far faster than expected, and it’s probably yet another thing that Trump is trying to distract us from."

the funny thing is a house is a depreciating asset and needs maintenance invested.

without that, the only real way he can raise prices is by devaluing the dollar. he certainly isn't making houses inherently more valuable in a "warzone".

why does inflation always get pitched as the opposite of what it is, when it means our money is worth less

@bweller
I would LOVE to see house price increases reported as a split between secular price growth (i.e., relative to a basket of other household costs) and inflation (i.e. the remaining inflation component) and also as a multiple of annual wages.
