Secret Valley

Mid-day in early November and the sun has barely risen. This lovely place, once home to farmers and shepherds, is now abandoned, returning to nature and the arctic foxes.

There is still a dirt road running through it though. Luckily for us, our guide knew exactly where it was.

Flateyjardalur valley in north-eastern #Iceland with the peak of ยนKambsmรฝrarhnjรบkur (1211 m/3973 ft) top left of centre.

A photo of a valley covered by snow and ice. Where rock is visible, it's black. The viewpoint is from a raised ridge above a valley with a river running through it. On the right, the sun is visible behind snow clouds but parts of the rest of the sky are clear cyan. On the opposite side of the flat valley floor is another range of hills with mountains behind them. One is particularly pointed and is catching the sunlight although large parts of it are obscured by heavy mists and cloud. The whole scene is extremely beautiful.
