Hello all. We're pleased to announce some big famichiki news ๐ŸŽ‰
As many of you have heard, @brian has handed over the reins, and the remaining mod team will be taking the helm. But that isn't all โ€” weโ€™re also taking steps to make the organization more robust and transparent. So hereโ€™s the big news: we will be forming a voluntary association (ไปปๆ„ๅ›ฃไฝ“) to run famichiki :famichiki:

What is a voluntary association (ไปปๆ„ๅ›ฃไฝ“)? Put simply, it is a group of individuals who come together for a common cause. It is not incorporation (which is more expensive and complex), so it doesn't create โ€œfamichikiโ€ as a legal entity โ€” we are all still acting as individuals โ€” but it does come with helpful features. We must establish a charter governing how the group operates, how it is funded, and how its leaders are chosen.

How will this help us? First, it will allow us to create a famichiki bank account. ๐Ÿฆ This lets us clearly separate organizational funds from personal funds, and control of the account can be transferred smoothly when there is a change in personnel.

We have drafted an organizational charter that will govern how the organization operates. Although we are still a group of individuals and not a corporation, the charter, once approved by the membership, acts like a contract. So, for example, if there were ever a problem with the use of funds, there would be a clear legal avenue to seek relief. This hasnโ€™t been a problem to date, but putting rules in place strengthens the organization and provides peace of mind for our donors ๐Ÿ’›

To form a voluntary association, we must hold a General Meeting each year and provide information about the groupโ€™s finances and activities. This increases transparency and gives members a voice in how famichiki is run. :donki: For example, the General Meeting must approve the charter and any major revisions to it.

The organizationโ€™s charter is available at flockofcats.xyz/content/files/โ€ฆ, and we will be holding our first General Meeting on Dec 20, 2025, on Zoom. The agenda includes approving the charter, approving the spending plan for the upcoming year, and approving the admin team. The proposed admin team is: @pippa as representative director, @FlockOfCats as treasurer, @piepants as administrator, @lukas as administrator, and @savvykenya as moderator

If anyone has questions, comments, or suggested revisions to the charter, please let us know. We would also like to give a big thanks to @networker_365 for his help in preparing the charter โ€” both in sorting out the Japanese language and for giving valuable comments on the content in both languages. Truly appreciated ๐Ÿ™

We are a community-driven organization, and our hope is that these changes will help us better serve the community not just today but in the years to come, even if/when the admin team changes. Famichiki has been around for three years, carving out our own niche on the internet โ€” no big tech, no surveillance capitalism โ€” just the community here and across the Fediverse โœจ These steps will help us continue with transparency, sustainability, and continuity. :chikified:
