Looking for more mods

in reply to db0

Timezone: +3 UTC

I'm familiar with piracy terms; and can remove spam posts i see.

in reply to db0

  • Must be willing to enforce instance rules as well.

Yup, I can do that.

  • Being very active in /c/piracy will be a big a plus, as that will allow you to notice and respond to problem posts, even before they're reported.

I'm probably not as active as I'd like to be but mostly because my Lemmy is set up to look at all.

  • Knowledgeable about pirate culture and tech a plus.

I'm not sure what you mean about pirate culture but I'm in tech.

  • Bonus if you're an anarchist as that vibes with our instance's culture, but not strictly necessary.

I'm not an anarchist but share many similar views. If that's going to be an issue, I understand.

I'm on the US east Coast. UTC-5 right now.

If One Eyed Willy ever joins Lemmy, we're set.

Hey there!

I've been active on dbzer0 for almost a year now, and I really enjoy this instance and the Lemmyverse as a whole. I specifically chose it, after I saw that lemmy.world banned piracy communities. I'm in the UTC+1/2 time zone, depending on daylight saving time, but I mostly work from home, so I'm available throughout the day. Having worked in both system administration and software engineering, I have quite a technical background. In my free time I passively engage with free and open source software projects (I participate in discussions on issue trackers, social media and in chat rooms, and try to promote FOSS projects, but I don't contribute as much directly). I'm an anarchist, and I've been following the piracy movement since the early days of TPB, since I'm very passionate about about digital rights, and open access to information. I am deeply convinced that greedy corporations shouldn't hold control over knowledge and culture.
I always report spam content/trolling whenever I see it, both here on Lemmy and on Mastodon.
Let me know if I could help out.

I'm guessing (and hoping!) this is just a very unfortunate typo, lol!

in reply to Zoop

That typo was diabolical

Ahoy Cap'n! I would like to contribute to /c/piracy as a mod. I'm on Lemmy daily and have been a pirate since Nero CD burner. I am definitely an anarchist. I know a bit of tech but I'm no developer.
in reply to db0

Not really looking to be a mod, but I wouldn't mind helping out, since I can't afford to donate right now. I'm in CST (GMT-6), and you might say I'm a little active. Terminally online, I think I've been called.

I'm probably not the most knowledgeable here when it comes to tech, but I do have an Unraid NAS with, among other services, a full Servarr stack automating my entire media intake, from TV shows and movies to audiobooks and novels, which pipes everything to the related media server and deletes it after I'm done watching.

And you already know I'm an anarchist, since we talked about it recently.

gotta say, not a huge fan of using obvious "AI" art to promote this.
in reply to BearGun

I am not anti-GenAI

Also the funny fact that the four male characters look like gnarly men, while the sole female character looks like her only talent is wearing make up
in reply to BearGun

I think it is okay, when otherwise this would be just a bland text-only post, and the image is small/ not attention grabbing.

I deleted my own account long ago, but joined sometime after reddit stopped 3rd party apps.

I can report spam but yoy can dm me for anything

Rules: I only enforce what I agree with .. thankfully I fully am in tune with the rules here, no hitch.

Active: I'm mostly a lurker with the occasional comment, but I try to keep up on things. I spend a few hours a day on /all but try to focus on local db0 more attentively in general... Better vibe anyway.

Pirate: Arrr! Does knowing what 1200 baud feels like help? DOS and Amiga Cracktro is my bread and butter! As to the tech, I run all my own services except Lemmy... Y'all do it better. Been working pro in tech, especially hypervisor and Linux stuff, since early 90s.

Bonus: human knowledge belongs to the world ... You are free to do anything that doesn't explicitly harm others. If peace isn't an option, I can bartend well enough to mix some cocktails to help solve things.

I'm CST , -6 as it were.

Cheers!

in reply to db0

Does every post you make need to have some random-ass image
in reply to db0

I was just fucking around generating images with Gemini right now, and this reminded me of what you probably need in regards to a mod 🙈

The hell is the problem with generating these things to some peeps? Stealing from, artists?

I can follow rules, though that's not very pirate like!

Just joined the instance but I'm the only mod for Xbox on .World. I'll be activate, but not every hour kinda active.

Knowledgeable about pirate culture and tech a plus.

I know enough of each to get me by.

I'm on Eastern Time.

I'd love to help out. Some fax:
I'm not very active in c/piracy but that can be changed, would enforce rules, knowledgeable about pirate culture ... I had a very snazzy demonoid account back in the day, so sure, why not. To the last point, goes without saying. CET.
in reply to db0

Hello, I would like to apply as well.

Not very active, but looking to be more active in the community, as well as installing local NAS for some more professional pirating of my own.

I am quite often in the app so dealing with reports shouldn't be a problem.

Anarchist, still researching and figuring out my exact philosophy.

Additionally I am from Europe so maybe that will help with coverage from timezones pov.

in reply to db0

Hello! I'd love to help. I am in EET timezone, I know how p2p and related technologies work (torrent, usenet, tor, i2p and so on), have accounts on most known torrent sites and usenet indexers, also, a few years ago had my own torrent tracker (heavily modified torrent-strike) with over 60k users. I don't know how active I can be, I might be able to offer a few hours a week to this, also I have no experience moderating lemmy or reddit communities.
in reply to db0

Going by a rule book isn't hard for me but I'd like to be notified if some things are exceptions (Ive been a mod before in a different setting and "exceptions to the rule" that weren't stated hindered my performance by me "over moderating")

I've lurked and made my own posts as well so my activity is considerable, I also have learned some stuff here as well as from private trackers I am a part of.

My knowledge is bits of python for scripts/scrapers, Emulation for switch + 3DS homebrew, DeDRMing, IRC setup and use, making + using torrents, private trackers, some other stuffs n how to download and boot up pirated games + books. I am a quick learner and don't mind working on something to figure it out.

Shout out to HakitaDev for this banger btw;

"You should support indies if you can, but culture shouldn't exist only for those who can afford it."

It sums up my idea of piracy.

My timezone is EST :P

It might be a good idea to sort out the mods you already have given how some of them are open neo-Nazis. Can’t say many people want to co-mod with people like that.
in reply to Kena

Wtf are you talking about?
in reply to db0

The fact that you out of all people have no idea is WILD
in reply to db0

Not OP, but I have come across a few, not many, alt right users from the dbzero instance. Not enough to remember their names, but enough to know they definitely exist.

Though I will keep an open eye for them now.

in reply to CosmicTurtle0 [he/him]

The instanceapplication isn't very rigorous, so obviously it's not impossible. We try too give some leeway since we don't expect everyone here to be an anarchist of course, but that's a far cry from a "neonazi" . If you come across any egregious examples just let us know.

Will do. It was one of those moments where I said, "I can't believe I'm on the same instance as this guy."

I don't give them any space in my brain so I usually down vote them and move on. But I'll bring it to your attention if I see them from now on.
