Thank you for your continued support!
Mona 7 will be available later this year as a new app.

Free features will include browsing timelines, posting with photos and videos, favoriting, reposting, and limited customization.

Premium feature pack (supports Family Sharing; works on iPhone/iPad/Mac) will be available for 3 USD per month or 20 USD per year.

If you have Mona Pro Max, the premium feature pack will also be available for just 20 USD as a one-time purchase (limited-time offer).

in reply to Mona app

Thanks for offering another reasonable one-time upgrade price! Looking forward to supporting you by upgrading!
in reply to Mona app

Ouch, another subscription? I’ll be purchasing this fully as soon as it comes out. So this won’t be an update to the existing app?
in reply to Mona app

Huh what? So now it's no longer one time purchase for features, I have to subscribe? IIRC I have Mona pro, I got the features, no idea how much it was back then but it was fine. But no way I'm subscribing just to use features of such an app. One time purchase, or even pay for big upgrades, fine. But USD per month to, browse Mastodon?
Thanks that I'm on Android at this point and Pachli is free and OSS.

Sounds good to me I guess I’ll be going for the Pro Max subscription as I will be wanting to use it across all devices. On the beta now. Do will I need to switch to the production version prior to upgrading?
in reply to Daron Brewood 🇬🇧

@tekguru Yes, the production version will need to be installed on the same device to make the purchase.
in reply to Mona app

Thanks as long as we get a change to plan the upgrade.
Will the beta be continuing once it is released?
in reply to Mona app

Not a bad deal. $20 a year is only 9 less than what I pay for for MLB's radio feeds, though I already have pro max so I'm sure taking that offer.
in reply to Mona app

So if you don't have Pro Max, does this mean you will no longer be able to purchase Mona as a one-time purchase?
in reply to Mona app

That's unfortunate. When I was choosing a Mastodon app, I picked this one because it was a purchase & the other was subscription.
in reply to Mona app

After the first three paragraphs: I'll find something new.
After the fourth: I grumble a little bit and will take advantage of the limited-time offer.

$20/year is a totally reasonable price for a full featured app. I would qualify for the one time $20 upgrade, but I’ll probably do the yearly subscription because supporting developers is actually important.
in reply to Mona app

Takže keď mám teraz pro verziu tak po novom budem musieť znovu zaplatiť? Rozumiem tomu dobre? Takže znovu budem musieť zaplatiť?
in reply to Mona app

If I understand correctly, as someone who already has purchased Pro Max, I can pay a one-time upgrade to keep Pro Max on Mona 7?

I hope I understand correctly, as paying to purchase an unpgrade is perfectly reasonable, but I detest rental software with the incendiary heat of a 1000 suns and will move to a different app if a straight purchase is no longer possible.

in reply to Mona app

Thank you for offering a one-time purchase option for your current customers/supporters!

Can we already pre-order that?

A bit curious what this means in practice though: you don’t plan to create another new version (8) one year from now?

in reply to Rob

@rob Thank you for your support too.
“Can we already pre-order that?” Not yet.
I can't guarantee how many free app updates I will ship. Just for reference, the initial version of Mona was shipped in May 2023, about 2.5 years ago.
@Rob
in reply to Mona app

I think that sounds reasonable for such a great app. But could you clarify what the estimated time frame that upgrading with the one-time purchase will guarantee new features?

For example, if Mona 8 comes out one year later, will Pro Max users need to pay again? Or do you expect a longer time period, as was the case for the original one-time purchase that covered Mona 5-6?

in reply to Kevin C

I’m not opposed at all to paying for upgrades.

I just think it will be helpful for you and customers to have a clear expectation of what the one-time purchase upgrade covers, because it seems that some people were confused about the terms of the original one-time purchase, since it wasn’t explicitly stated.

Clearly knowing the terms of the one-time purchase might also help current Pro Max users decide between the one-time upgrade vs subscribing.

Thanks again for the great app!

in reply to Kevin C

@somelinguist Thank you for your messages. I can't guarantee how many or how often I will ship free app updates. Just for reference, the initial version of Mona was shipped in May 2023, about 2.5 years ago.
in reply to Mona app

Being a beta tester was a bad idea 🤦‍♂️

I didn’t even know there’s a max, you recently increased the price of that $10, so now I need to pay $50 total for a social media app I’ve been really happy with?

Looks like it’s time to shop around again. 😔

in reply to Mona app

So I will have to upgrade from Pro to Pro Max in order to be able to make the one-time purchase. Okay for me although I don't need the "Max". But I dislike subscriptions.
in reply to Mona app

I paid for Mona once. How do I find out, whether I’m on Pro or Pro Max? Will the old app continue to work? (One-time purchase is fine, but I will not do another subscription.)
in reply to drikkes

Found it in the settings. Thanks. Will I need to switch to OS 26 for the apps to work? I do not plan to do so on Mac and Phone in the near future.
in reply to drikkes

@drikkes Hi, the existing app will continue to work, and upgrading to iOS 26 is not required.
in reply to Mona app

So without Pro Max, I would have to start paying a subscription? 🤔
in reply to Mona app

will you release a new testflight version where we can test the "free" version?
in reply to Mona app

Is alt text generation a premium feature? That’s the only thing I want, so I can generate alt text for my Bluesky posts. I’ve been using Ice Cubes for that.
in reply to Mona app

is this going to be happening every year where you release a major version release and then we have to pay for the one time or subscription price.
I guess that’s fair though. I’ll just pay the $20 one time and get it, but it’s getting pretty expensive to do this every major version release
in reply to Jane Suh

Can I work this on the Mac too? If I get the pro max one time purchase? On the m1 MacBook Air.
in reply to Jane Suh

@janesuh5 Yes, Mona Pro Max works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and no need to purchase separately.
in reply to Mona app

Will there be an equivalent of Mona Pro? I don’t need Pro Max but would probably want to upgrade now, to get the one time purchase deal. I’d much rather pay now instead of getting yet another subscription.
in reply to Mona app

Thanks for the transparency! Looking forward to the new version, the beta is already very good.
in reply to Mona app

Totally understand developers, even as hobbyists, need to get paid, and they should. No issue there.

I appreciate the limited-time OTP as well.

My only complaint is that, I’m simply not into “renting software.” Everything seems to be headed that direction, which degrades the experience for me.

I hope it works out for you, though. I enjoy the app. I’ve purchased Mona 6, and will likely just stick with that.

in reply to Mona app

Since Mona 7 is being released as a new app, could you please clarify the status of Mona 6, following the release of Mona 7. Will Mona 6 remain in the app store as a legacy app for users who do not wish to upgrade?
in reply to Lynn I 🗽 📚

@Lynn My plan is to keep it on the store. This happens sometimes but not all the time, but Apple may consider it a duplicate app and remove it.
in reply to Mona app

Love the app, and I'd like to purchase Mona Pro Max, but when I try to upgrade, it says "The paid version of Mona Pro Max is currently unavailable to purchase in your region."

Can you enable it for purchase in Japan?

OK. So all features available in the testflight version will be in the free version?
in reply to Mona app

Hum this sounds like a SECOND lifetime purchase, I understand the need of support but the first “one time purchase “ Appreciate the effort, is not about money is more a trust problem. I can see am schema next year version 8 also “one time purchase” at the same price of the subscription. IMO There is only one correct way: switch to suscription model, keep free forever for the one time past purchase customers who support earlier steps.
in reply to Dominique

@apexnasi Sorry for misunderstanding. We don’t have that kind of TestFlight at this moment.
in reply to Mona app

OK. Could you "simulate" the free and premium behaviour in the next testflight version?
in reply to Mona app

@wenwizzle Thank you for the suggestion!
in reply to Mona app

I already love the Beta, looking forward to renew my Pro Max. Definitely worth it!
in reply to Mona app

Dostal som aktualizáciu Mona v app store a nevidím nič nové. Alebo to ešte neni tá novinka?
in reply to Mona app

Can you please advise when this update will be available? I am looking forward to supporting you in future updates to this awesome app which I use every day.
in reply to Scott Rutkowski

@scottrut Sorry but I can't provide an exact date because of the uncertainty of the app review process of App Store.
in reply to Mona app

the app is good but i paid for the lifetime option, if i keep paying each year for a new “lifetime” that’s just a subscription. modded twitter clients appeared too so it’s just logical to go back to twitter
