The Linux community, when it started to form, had technical Wizards like me, who can build an OS from sources cross compiling via DOS(!)
When my friend Alain asked about a sound card error he had in dos, win16, I told him to build the OS himself too, which he naturally failed.

His problem was not fixed yet but he is a Autodidact like me, so learned how Linux was bolted together

There were no kernel modules then, all was monolithic
He then found the cause after a month or three
Proof that Linux Wizards 🪄 on my level are not friendly, when we know you are very smart too
